Davos - The police commander heading security for the World Economic Forum's annual meeting in Davos was found dead on Tuesday morning in Switzerland, local police said, adding that it appeared to be a suicide.
"Dr Markus Reinhardt, commander of the Graubuenden cantonal police... was found dead in his hotel room in the morning," the south-eastern Swiss police force said in a statement on the eve of the meeting of global business and political leaders.
"All indications point to a suicide," it added.
Reinhardt, 61, has headed the canton's police force since 1984.
"With the passing of Dr Markus Reinhardt, canton Graubuenden, the Graubuenden and Swiss police have lost a treasured, important personality," said police in a tribute.
