'Decoy Jews' might nab attacker

Amsterdam - Authorities in Amsterdam are pondering the idea of having police dress up as orthodox Jews to help catch offenders after an increase in anti-Semitic attacks, the mayor's spokesperson told the German Press Agency dpa on Wednesday.

The undercover officers would then be able to arrest offenders in the Dutch capital immediately, Lodewijk Asscher said.

"We're seriously looking at how unorthodox methods such as so- called 'decoy Jews' could help us prevent discrimination and violence against Jews," he said.

The plan is being supported by the Dutch Centre for Information and Documentation on Israel (CIDI).

CIDI said that Dutch Jews have become increasingly worried about wearing skull caps or other religious symbols in public.
