Riyadh - A Saudi police official says a young woman in her twenties defying a driving ban in the capital died along with three female friends when her car overturned.

Fawaz al-Mouman said on Sunday that the woman was driving her four wheel drive vehicle carrying 10 of her female friends on Saturday night in an open area often used by young men in car races.

The vehicle overturned and killed four of passengers including the driver, while the remaining six others were taken to a nearby hospital in northeastern Riyadh to treat their injuries.

Saudi Arabia follows a strict interpretation of Islam. Sexes are segregated in schools and public places.

Women are not allowed to drive or vote.

Mmmm. Very first world, very logical for women not being allowed to vote or drive. Wonder how you justify that using religion?

its a pity she crashed and died, because I love the fact that she made a point. Girls are the same everywhere. I do suspect she had no drivers lisence. Where would she obtain one in a country that does not allow her to drive. Silly woman! endangering her friends like that. Now the mullas has more fingers to point at the dangers of having females on the road.

It's sad, my daughter lived there and I saw how those poeple drive it's scary then you have fathers that are to lazy to take the wife shopping or he's at one of the other wives houses, so he lets his 12 year old boy drive the mother to town, this kid is behind a massive 4x4 SUV and can barely peer over the steering wheel. We need to send the taxi drivers over there, if they pass there then they will be considered good drivers, you have no idea what those drivers get up to.
