Cape Town - As a British coroner officially opened an inquest into the death of Princess Diana on Tuesday, as it emerged that the Princess of Wales knew of a senior member of the Royal Family plotting to kill her.
In a letter to her former butler Paul Burrell, Princess Diana wrote the name of the Royal Family member planning to kill her. The letter was written 10 months before her death.
Princess Diana and boyfriend, Dodi al Fayed, died when their car crashed in Paris in August 1997. They were being chased by journalists.
Media reports indicate that the letter, which may be presented during the inquest, was written as "insurance".
A London-based newspaper has even published the name contained in the letter.
The Royal Family's coroner Michael Burgess will open the inquest at 12:30, but it is reported that no witnesses will be called to give evidence in person at the hearings.
There is going to be two separate inquests. Westminster one for Princess Diana, and the other one for al Fayed in Surrey.
