2012-07-23 16:50

Brussels - The European Union will provide another €20m in aid for the hundred of thousands of internally displaced people and refugees from the conflict in Syria, the bloc's executive said on Monday.

The latest pledge will take total EU humanitarian assistance to €63m.

"The needs are huge inside the country but also on the increase in the neighbouring countries which face a larger influx of Syrian refugees," EU Humanitarian Aid Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva said.

"The scaling up of the EU assistance is the most concrete expression of our solidarity with the Syrian people affected by the conflict," she added.
