Quito - Four miners were trapped 150m down a mine on Friday, after a collapse in Portovelo, in Ecuador's southwest coastal province of El Oro, a civil defense source told AFP.

"Four miners are trapped at the fifth level of the mine, roughly 150m down," the source said, adding all four were believed to be alive.

The accident comes after the successful rescue this week of 33 miners trapped for almost 10 weeks in Chile's San Jose mine.
