Ex-official denies Israel poisoned Arafat

2012-08-29 14:00

Jerusalem — A former Israeli official is denying allegations that Israel poisoned Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat as French prosecutors begin investigating his possible murder.

Dov Weisglass was chief of staff to the Israeli prime minister when Arafat died in 2004. He says Israel had no interest in harming the Palestinian leader at the end of his political career.

Weisglass told Army Radio on Wednesday that Israel permitted Arafat to seek medical treatment in France so Israel could not be accused of exacerbating his illness.

Arafat's widow, Suha, filed a complaint in France after a Swiss institute detected traces of a rare, lethal substance on objects belonging to the Palestinian leader.

He died in a French military hospital of a stroke. But longstanding rumours circulating in Arab world say Arafat was poisoned.

Look to who wanted him dead - and that’s not Israel. Arafat was a mad terrorists but he loved the attention and was being spoilt with billions of dollars (of which his wife continues to enjoy) provided by the UN, EU, US, Saudi and the World Bank - money stolen from the Palestinians and being spent in Paris on cosmetics and jewellery by Sura Arafat. Israel didn’t want Arafat dead because he brought stability to an area that lacked it. If you want to know who did want Arafat dead, look no further then the Islamic brotherhood - the proof being the fact that today Hamas is successfully in power in Gaza for the last decade – while the the only obstacle to their power was Arafat. Don’t forget that when the PA lost to Hamas, Hamas threw PA members off the building in Gaza (they murdered close to a thousand of Arafat’s old guard). To conclude, even though Arafat probably did die of Aids, there is a very good possibility that the Islamic brotherhood killed him, but almost zero chance that Israel killed him because Israel enjoyed the stability he was paid to provide in the area

The outcome of the findings can only be in Israel's favor. Either Israel is exonerated outright due to lack of evidence, or Israel is blamed for his death in the absence of any evidence which would be laughable. All a load of BS.

Oh, and Lesego, you think Arafat was a great leader? Just as you claim Mugabe is an African hero for reducing his country to punery and suffering. What a joke.

Nope, its a joke and all the fools of the world are getting suckered in to a new piece of nonsense.

We have had this discussion before. The majority of people of this world are poor, uneducated, and basically need to be able to think like adults in the first place in order to seperate truth from the rubbish their 'dear leaders' tell them to believe. It is not about majority but rather it is about quality. The USA, UK, France, Germany, Canada, Australia and New Zealand are quality democracies that support Israel. Swaziland, Zimboland, Afghanistan, Liberia and Lebanon et al, may have ten times the population, but one hundredth the quality in every respect. I think I live in the real world. At least I can comprehend world politics, and do not make idiotic statements like "Israel is the 53rd state of the USA, or is a UN colony" as you have done.

Patrick, To call mugabe and that prostitute gaddafi, African Heroes, shows that you have lost touch with reality. PROVEN In the real world, both of them are criminals. PROVEN It is only in your silly little world, that YOU made them heroes. PROVEN The ones who agree with you, in the real world, including Africa, and including readers on this site, is not more than 5 % NO DOUBT-----PROVEN----NO DOUBT----PROVEN-PROVEN and PROVEN !!!

Lesego/Patrick, the majority opinion is derived through the influence of polititians and religious leaders, imposed upon a world population of mostly uneducated dead-heads who have not the mental capacity to think for themselves. Their influence is therefore stage-managed and almost always acted out as mob violence and anarchy and terrorism. We see it every day, from the ANCYL to the Taliban.

Israel would be last country in the world to have poisoned Arafat - they have enough on their heads without being accused of killing Arafat. Whatever he died of - good riddance!
