Ex-spymaster: Israel will survive

2012-02-08 21:18

Tel Aviv - A former Israeli spy master who has accused the country's leaders of barrelling toward a rash military strike in Iran says Israel's survival is not at risk.

The assessment by Meir Dagan appeared to put him at odds with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has repeatedly warned that a nuclear-armed Iran could put Israel's existence in jeopardy.

Dagan made his observation on Wednesday at a time of mounting speculation that Israel is planning to attack Iranian nuclear facilities in the next few months.

Dagan spoke at the launch of a political reform movement. Responding to an audience question, he said he does not think Israel faces an "existential threat." He did not explicitly mention Iran, but such language in Israel generally refers to Iran.

The Iranian threat is a manufactured one indeed. It allows the political gangsters in washington to launder +- $6 billion p/a of that country's taxes into Israel which is then swiped back to the US via aipac and the defence contractors in political donations. Israel also needs a permanent enemy because the zionist fundementalist understand that once peace were to be concluded with their neighbours, the civil war between the religious and secular elements would start. They need the common enemy to exist.

i duno which showed how little you know. the first or the second paragraph. 1) i will bet my bottom dollar u do not have any idea how money laundering or tax or anything financial works. so what im trying to say is you either just this stuff up, or some one else made it up and you're just repeating it 2) there is no war between the secular and the religios? what a stupid thing to say... so how would you explain people who are mildly religios, which side do they fall on? half the army is religios while half the army isnt.... israel dousnt need to manufacture enemies, the world is open enough to declare their hate for israel. iran makes no secret of it? all of the arab neighbours make no secret about it? they hated israel before palestinians even existed..... wow you know nothing about the situation except that you hate israel. so why all of a sudden do u believe israel has to pretend people dont like them? u think those suicide bombers, rockets, snipers and cold blooder murders sent to kill israelis are all paid actors? pls catch a wake up and understand they real threat to human rights in this world is not israel. quite the opposite actually. if palestinians were on any one else land besides for israrels, they would have all been murdered a long time ago.

I agree , there is no immedient danger to Isreal and a pre-emptive strike on nuclear facilities would just escalate tensions and counter productive to diplomatic options. Sanctions are all ready hitting Iran with Ahmajinedad being hauled before 'parliment' for economic distress and mismanagement. Lets hope they realise its better to have stable economy, open trade and prosperity than nukes and global mistrust .
