Faithful dog stays at crash site
Hildesheim - For three days German police and dogcatchers vainly tried to catch Roman, a loyal dog which kept returning to the autobahn accident site where its owner, 78, had wrecked his car.
The male schnauzer dog was catapulted out of the crashing car and left behind on Saturday when an ambulance took the seriously injured driver and his wife, 75, to hospital. Police broadcast constant warnings to motorists to avoid the lingering, distressed animal.
On Tuesday, the owner rose from his hospital bed and was taken to the crash site near the northern town of Hildesheim. Helped by a nurse, he scoured the roadside until he found and put a leash on the overjoyed dog.
