Finnish PM gets death threat

2010-05-21 11:53
Helsinki - Security authorities in Finland are investigating a death threat against Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen posted on his official page on Facebook, a spokesperson said on Friday.

A commentator, writing under the profile of a young man with a Finnish name and a photograph, posted a remark containing several profanities and threatening that "some day I will come and butcher" the prime minister.

The comment appeared below a link to an article on Vanhanen's concerns over debts in Europe, with the commentator suggesting that the prime minister should instead worry about Finland's debt.

"The threat is being investigated by (the prime minister's security) authorities," Matti Moenttinen, a spokesperson for Vanhanen's Centre Party, said. "We take all of these types of things seriously," he said.

The comment, posted on Thursday, was still on the site on Friday but would be removed later in the day, Moenttinen said.
