Florida shooter gets $1m bond

Orlando - The neighbourhood watch volunteer who killed an unarmed black teenager in a gated Florida community can be released from jail on $1m bond while he awaits trial in a case that provoked nationwide protests, a judge ruled on Thursday.

Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester granted bond to George Zimmerman for a second time.

Lester had revoked Zimmerman's $150 000 bond last month after prosecutors told the judge Zimmerman and his wife misled the court about how much money they had during an April bond hearing.

Zimmerman has been charged with second-degree murder for fatally shooting 17-year-old Trayvon Martin on 26 February in Sanford.

Zimmerman has pleaded not guilty and claims the shooting was self-defence under the state's "stand your ground" law.

Martin's parents and supporters claim that the teenager was targeted because he was black and that Zimmerman started the confrontation that led to the shooting.

Zimmerman's father is white and his mother is Hispanic.

oooh, a "white" hispanic, lets start a race war!. time for the international media to grow up and stop trying to generate anti white hatred. I understand that news24 is actually legally prevented from editing these reports and is obliged to print them as they are by the international press, so we can't blame them. How many people have noticed that white on black violence whether it happen or is a figment of someones imagination, while exactly the same crimes committed by blacks on whites, are never printed and in a lot of cases not printed on instructions from the police and government officials, and that the international tendency to do this is growing.
