London - A former UK Cabinet minister has been sentenced
to eight months in jail over a convoluted attempt to pin a speeding penalty on
his wife in 2003.
Chris Huhne, 60, pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice
last month after months of denials.
He resigned as a UK lawmaker the same day he pleaded
guilty.
His ex-wife, Vicky Pryce, was convicted of the same
charge last week.
Pryce - who had claimed Huhne coerced her into take the
penalty for the speeding violation - and her ex-husband were both sentenced on Monday
at London's Southwark Crown Court.
She also received an eight- month jail sentence.
The couple split in 2010 after Huhne's affair with his
public relations adviser was revealed.
The conviction has shattered Huhne's political career.
