French ship nearing blockaded Gaza

2011-07-19 11:01

Jerusalem - The Israeli military says it has made initial contact with a ship attempting to break Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip.

The military spokesperson's office said the ship was notified that it was approaching the blockaded area.

It did not say what response, if any, the activists aboard the ship gave.

Activists could not be contacted on Wednesday.

The vessel, the Dignity al-Karama, is the only ship remaining from a larger protest flotilla that had hoped to sail weeks ago but was blocked by Greek authorities.

Sixteen activists and journalists are aboard the French-based ship.

Im glad I don't believe and all that supernatural crap, and by the way free Palestine

      LexLuther - 2011-07-19 13:01

Vis Vang - "Palestine" is free. Gaza and the West Bank run their own governments, armies (which purposely hide in civilian populations and daily attempt the muder of Israeli children and civilians, but never mind that), and every other aspect of governance, including a border.

      JMsays - 2011-07-19 13:16

@Lex, Palestine free? What's with the BLOCKADED GAZZA? If thats free it don't want it either!

      LexLuther - 2011-07-19 13:27

At JM: Just because Israel refuses to allow Gaza to freely import weapons to be used against it, does not mean it is not free. Lesotho is free. If it was at war with South Africa, do you think we would allow weapons to be sent to it?

      Zionist - 2011-07-19 13:52

GAZA IS FREE! FREE TO CHOSE PEACE But they don’t want peace… why?? Why do they vote for war?? Is this a religious calling? GAZA WILL BE COMPLETELY FREE WHEN THEY VOTE FOR PEACE WITH ISRAEL. ie WHEN THEY STOP CALLING FOR THE DEATH OF ISRAEL. FACT

      pierreedge - 2011-07-19 15:40

Isreal is FREE TO CHOSE PEACE ALSO But they don’t want peace… why?? Why do they vote for war?? Why do they vote for for governments who keep building illegal settlements in disputed areas, who keep imposing illegal blockades on the gaza strip, who keep occupying territories??? Is this a religious calling? Is this just about annexing more land? Isreal WILL BE COMPLETELY FREE WHEN THEY VOTE FOR PEACE, when they respect international laws, when they stop taking other people's land.

      Kunta-Kinte - 2011-07-19 18:33

@LexLuther The bantustants were also considered free in this country. Typical of zionist parasite.

  • cratzy - 2011-07-19 11:38

On average 340 truck loads of goods enter gaza a week. No need for flotilla!! Israel has a right to protect itself and an obligation to protect its citiznes which include a large arab population. Its a democratic first world county. On average 10 miliary grade projectiles/morters are fired from Gaza untargeted per week into Israel, they could land anywhere... What would you do?

      Paco7 - 2011-07-19 11:41

of the 340 trucks,339 are confiscated by Israeli military and 1 bread truck is given to the Palestinians. Please check your facts before making stupid remarks

      Peg-Leg-Sven - 2011-07-19 12:51

@Paco7, it is the Israelis that allow the trucks into Gaza, the only things that are not allowed, are anything that can be turned into explosives or weapons. You need to do some research yourself before making inane comments to others.

      pierreedge - 2011-07-19 15:42

So much for a free country with their own governement as some keep saying above. Since when does Mozambique check trucks coming into SA and block them if they dont like their content???

  • chrismtb007 - 2011-07-19 11:45

@ Watchman, the only reason there is conflict is because of religion, both sides... now you back Israel, but they sure as hell are not much better than Palistine. Religion is the cause of all major wars in the middle east.... now your comment about super natural is useless. they are fighting because ancient scripts (that cannot be confirmed except for reference to an old book written by people centuries ago)say so... this is so stone aged....

      Lihle - 2011-07-19 11:50

Agree with you for 99.99@ of conflicts. The other .01@ is due to downright stupidity.

      BrassCopper - 2011-07-19 14:04

True... Religion is a problem... I agree BUT There is hardly a conflict in the world that doesn't have Muslims involved. Afghanistan, Bosnia, Cote d’Ivoire, Cyprus, East Timor, Gaza, Indonesia, Kashmir, Kosovo, Kurdistan, Macedonia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Chechnya, Serbia, Thailand, Bangladesh, Tajikistan, Egypt, Syria, Sudan, Ethiopia, Tunisia, Algeria, Yemen, etc. All of these recent or ongoing conflicts have involved Islam. so please don’t generalise all religions. Thanks

      mecan - 2011-07-19 14:56

The Muslims aren't happy! They're not happy in Gaza. They're not happy in Egypt. They're not happy in Libya. They're not happy in Morocco. They're not happy in Iran. They're not happy in Iraq. They're not happy in Yemen. They're not happy in Afghanistan. They're not happy in Pakistan. They're not happy in Syria. They're not happy in Lebanon. And where are they happy? They're happy in England. They're happy in France. They're happy in Italy. They're happy in Germany. They're happy in Sweden. They're happy in the USA. They're happy in India. They're happy in Norway. They're happy in every country that is not Muslim. And who do they blame? Not their leadership. Not themselves. THEY BLAME THE COUNTRIES THEY ARE HAPPY IN!

      pierreedge - 2011-07-19 15:47

What a stupid comment brass copper. There is hardly a murder in the world where humans are not involved too? There is hardly a crime in the world where poor people are not involved too? Small advice, dont just read the news headlines only and try to understand the nature of conflicts in those countries and then stop talking kak. Tuisia for instance is an issue with the government of the country, hardly religion based. Chechnya is an separatist issue with russia, same as north ireland and england or the basques and France etc etc

      chrismtb007 - 2011-07-19 16:02

@ BrassCopper, well I dont know about you, but Muslim is also a religion in my books.. wheather you like it or not.. I stand by my point, Religion is the cause of most of the wars!!!!! I have seen a lot of angry christians, to be quite honest, the amount of christians that I know that are unhappy, outweigh the happy ones by far... My point is, religion is the cause of all mess ups!!!! I guess its better to believ in the easter bunny and santa clause, at least they dont cause wars!!!!

      Matt - 2011-07-19 16:08

@ chrismtb007 - shall I not mention Stalin or Mao Tse Tung, both of which were fervent atheists and both together caused more deaths than all other wars in history combined... (even if you included Hitler, who was anti-religion but used religion to gain support) what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

  • cratzy - 2011-07-19 11:48

Paco7, do you work at the border? Do you have a problem with people firing morters indiscriminately into another country?

      Paco7 - 2011-07-19 11:55

how do u feel about soldiers wiping out your entire family just because they look suspicious

      Kunta-Kinte - 2011-07-19 12:10

A thug walks across the street, gun in hand and enters someone's house and home and tells the owners and residents to leave and that this house is now his...they try to protest, but he is armed and dangerous and they fail to repel him. – Is the invader now the "legitimate" occupant...? Suicide bombers would not resort to suicide bombing or to terrorism if they had cruise missiles, drones, aircraft carriers, military bases. This exemplifies your worldview and that of every other neo-con who claims to have a superior moral standpoint to "the terrorists".

      Arno Young - 2011-07-19 12:21

@Paco7, do you have proof? I have proof that civilians were slaughtered by the PA, throats cut, with the perpetrators saying that if they had time, they would have done the same to the other two kids. In Itamar, about three months ago. No remorse. Do yourself a favour and read it.

      LexLuther - 2011-07-19 13:11

At Kunta-Kinte: Are you ignorant or just stupid? Hamas has rockets, missiles, including anti-tank missiles, and heavy and light automatic weapons, supplied by, amongs others, Syria, Lebanon and Iran. Also, do you expect Israel to just accept the daily firing of missiles aimed at killing Israeli women and children, or do you expect Israel to defends its citizens? Israel has the right to use the weapons at its disposal to protect itself. Or are only muslim lives important to you, and Jews should just die? Is that your attitude? A thug (Hamas) tries to kill an Israeli child with a gun. Must the Israeli military only fight back with the same calibre gun? NO! They have the right to use the weapons at their disposal to defend their citizens.

      LexLuther - 2011-07-19 14:03

At Onnest - first - look at the company you keep - Paco and Kubs - who wish the Holocaust had continued. Secondly, you are a hypocrite and a racist who singles out the Jewish state for criticism and hatred, and ignores every single muslim state which commits gross human rights violations, muder and genocide. Thirdly, wow, talk about "hiding the truth" - you have jsut stated the biggest load of rubbish I have ever read except for what Kubs and Paco write. "wipe out a city"???? If you want to talk about evil and genocide, then talk about the muslims in Sudan who have killed the African Sudanese in Darfur by the millions. Do yourself a favour and go to wikipedia and search for Gaza city. You will see a developed metropolis, NOT a wiped out city. Go on and do it. You will be amazed at the lies and propaganda the anti-Israelis spread. And finally, there is only ONE side which deliberately attempts to murder innocent children, women and other civilians in this war- and that is the Palestinians. When Israel DEFENDS herself against attacks, the civilian deaths are unintended and regretted, not intended and celebrated like on the Palestinian side.

      Onnest - 2011-07-19 14:27

Lexluther...well I was not referring to Gaza, I was actually referring to the 2006 bombardment of Beirut in which your government used outdated weapons to kill thousands of innocent women and children (please don't deny it, we all know the truth)Furthermore you do oppress the Palestinian people, but you do not see it that way because you think they are inferior to your 'Gods chosen race'. You see them all as terrorists. Imagine we kept the whole of Gauteng in a camp because we thought they were all hijackers? Similar isn't it? The facts and the truth will always be there and one day, it might not be now or in the years to come, but oneday all crimes will have to be answered. I don't deny that Israel's neighbors have their faults, but i disagree with the manner in which Israel deals with this. Regarding Sudan and other African states, this is off the topic so I will not answer this. You blame Muslims but you too are guilty. Thoughout your posts you refer to Gods chosen people and the promised land. Have you ever thought that every person on this earth is Gods chosen people, including the Muslims? Until you realise that Israel is not special, and cannot continue to get away with crimes against humanity, you will always be judged and in some (increasingly) cased hated.

      Onnest - 2011-07-19 14:32

Apologies Lexluther, it was not you but Watchman that continues to refer to the Jews as being somehow superior, Gods chosen ones, or whatever...

      LexLuther - 2011-07-19 15:11

At Onnest: Firstly I am sorry but you are wrong. If you are talking about the war between Lebanon and Israel, which was started by a completely unprovoked attack on Israeli soldiers by Hezbolla, then it is very simple. If you start a war with another state, then you must accept the consequences, which is a state of war. You don't blame the Allied forces for the deaths of German civiilans during World War 2 do you? It is EXACTLY the same thing. You think that Israel must accept the death of its citizens and not retaliate. Why? Are Jewish lives not as important to you as muslim lives? And how can you say that Suidan and other African states are "off topic", when you yourself are referring to a war between one state, Lebanon, started by Lebanon, and Israel? The point is that you single out Israel for criticism and ignore the actions of Hamas and other muslim states. The defining characteristic of Israel is that it is a Jewish state, so by singling out Israel you are by definition being anti-Jewish and hypocritical. Finally, no-where have I justified Israel's actions because I think the palestinians are infderior. I justify Israel's actions because Israel has the right and obligation to defend its citizens against an organization that calls for the destruction of Israel and the murder of all Jews. It is nothing like your example of Gauteng at all. Gaza is an independently functioning entity with its own government and military, dedicated officially to the murder of all Jews.

      Monacoroyals - 2011-07-19 15:29

Omnest... "crimes against humanity"??? You can’t have Genocide or ethnic cleansing if the Palestinians are not dying in mass like the Holocaust, Rwanda, or Congo... or even the way Kadafi is killing his own. If anything Israel has always wanted and voted for peace. Palestinians attacks, deaths and their use of human shields is a war crime done by Hamas! You want to see an area cleansed then where did all the Christians and Jews that lived in the Arab world go? Why are Gays disappearing in Iran and Saudi… why are women stoned for being raped in this world you seem to represent? Israel has a 20% Muslim population who earn a better living then any of their neighbours... who vote and live anywhere in Israel... if anything your comment of human rights atrocities are more true to Israel's neighbours rather than Israel...

      Onnest - 2011-07-19 15:52

@LexLuther: Firstly, this was not a war between Lebanon and Israel. It was famously named 'Israels Offensive on Lebanon' and was initiated by a group of radical's, not by Lebanon as a state! And this is exactly where Israel goes wrong. You, and your people, in your minds can justify the killings of thousands of innocent civilians based on the capture of 2 Israeli soldiers and a attack by one group of 'terrorists'. Please man, do not come here with comparison of WW2, you know this is a completely different situation. The world was at war, it wasn't the killing of 5 soldiers. Are you serious, thought you could do better than that! All lives are important to me Jewish or Muslim. But 5 lives versus 1000 and who knows how many can't walk or dont have arms. And on the point of Gaza, it is a mass prison where your people treat it's citizens as criminals. I'm tired of debating with ignorant people, carry on believing and spreading your lies to justify your sins. If you had any idea about God you would not use such lame excuses to justify you actions.

  • cratzy - 2011-07-19 12:05

Thats insanity ofcourse. But if someone was using my apartment to fire rockets from against my will, causing me to be a target of retaliation, then perhaps that someone is the person you should ask your question to.

  • cratzy - 2011-07-19 12:33

Kunta-Kinte, I think your history on the 1967 Six day war is a little fuzzy there... While you brushing up on that why not contact the UN Securtiy Council and meet with them regarding resolution 242 before firing rockets when and where you feel on any particular day.

      Kunta-Kinte - 2011-07-19 12:45

There is nothing fuzzy about my history. Russian and polish Khazars have no claim to Palestine as they are not even semites. It was that fool Lord Balfour ( The British have always have a dismal foreign policy) that promised the zionist leaders Palestine if the American jews were able to bring America into the war to fight on the side of the Allies during WWI. Israel is nothing but a rogue state, a bantustan, a military outpost. It could never survive without the US aid donations hence it is not interested in ending the conflict in Palestine.

      Paco7 - 2011-07-19 12:45

@ Arno Young u are so naive and ignorant,u have proof of one incident when the Israeli soldiers do it all day ,every day

      Arno Young - 2011-07-19 12:52

@Paco. I did not attack you personally, yet you found it good to belittle me. Our premise for discussion is so vastly different, that I can only conclude that the continuance thereof is futile.

      LexLuther - 2011-07-19 13:24

At Kunta-Kinte. What a stupid argument. Your descendants 500 years ago were not born in South Africa, so that means you have no claim to being a South African? The biggest problem Jew-haters like you have, just like Hamas), is that you cannot accept the facts on the ground - the Israeli state exists and it is a Jewish state, and it does and will survive. You clearly want the destruction of Israel and the killing of the Jews. But this will never happen. As soon as you can accept that, then talks can being, but people like you can't even make that first step. Secondly, if you want to talk about a state surviving on aid donations, then Gaza and the Westbank are the perfect examples. They are totally dependent on outside aid because all they do is use the money for corruption and war, and not developing their poeple. Ask Arafat's wife in France how she is enjoying the billions of dollars he stole from the people he was supposed to be representing.

  • cratzy - 2011-07-19 12:52

So what you are saying is that not being interested in negotiating is a justification for 'terrorism'...

      Paco7 - 2011-07-19 14:04

@ Kubs, you have taken ignorace to a whole new level. Or perhaps you have just brought it down to your level?

      MosesMabhida - 2011-07-19 14:13

not true Kubs... there is no Palestinian Madiba - you people are too violent for a Madiba. Peace could have been achieved several times in the last 60 odd years, if it was not ruined by a small number of bad leaders (Arafat) that rode the gravy train while their people suffered on Israel's self defence policy. Today Hamas/ PA are so financially rich that any advances in peace with Israel would mean an end to financial support from Iran / US, EU, World bank; respectively. If the Palestinians had a Madiba leader like we did, there would off been peace. But Palestinians want and religiously need war for their own beliefs.

  • cratzy - 2011-07-19 13:19

What Kunta-kinte, Paco as well as what appears to be the majority of people dont recognise is that Israel exits to provide security to Jews as a nation. If Israel didnt exist as it does today, use your imagination or better yet read a bit of world history. Jewish security is at the heart of this debate in truth. If you are against that, then what exactly are you for?

      Paco7 - 2011-07-19 14:02

Yes, I am all of those things. I also have a very little winky ... it makes me so angry I could cry, in fact just talking about it is making me cry!

  • Matt - 2011-07-19 16:13

While we're all complaining about religious intolerance, I just want to highlight something that affects Christians, Jews and Muslims alike. All three believe in a Creator God. This is incompatible with the evolution/big bang theory for numerous reasons. However, in SA, if you send your child to a public school, the school's district enforces the teaching of evolution in required subjects. In other words, your child is FORCED to learn it. You as a parent cannot have him or her excluded from the class on religious grounds. Complaining to the school won't help because their curriculum is dictated by the district. Our only recourse is to fight the Department of Education and frankly they're useless. So, we have to send our children to private schools where they can teach what they like. Which is expensive... So there you have it - freedom of religion is denied by SA's government. Just so you know. And atheists, humanists, evolutionists may mock me for stating this - the point is not about whether you believe it or not, the point is that to the government, religious freedom is a fallacy and denied right here in SA. So maybe we should look at the issue at hand in SA regarding our freedom being denied, and afterwards look at the Israel issue.

      MosesMabhida - 2011-07-19 16:34

True. But Israel sells like sex & puppies cant you see... every second article is about them. Hate of Jews is only politically correct though hate of Israel. So as much as what you say is true - unfortunately it falls on death ears to the majority of people...

      tryanything - 2011-07-19 16:38

Agreed if we could do some work on our own problems instead of f@@ing around in other countries blowing our budget on jaunts (except when we need votes )distracting the gullible public from the real issues. The Israelis are a tough bunch and can look after themselves.. S.A. Is becoming a Joke . Maybe I should go into business making guillotines and not the paper cutting type either.

  • Kunta-Kinte - 2011-07-19 18:36

There are no "doves" in Israel. They are all colonialist birds of a feather.

  • Kunta-Kinte - 2011-07-19 18:51

The Palestinian papers confirmed that Fatah had been willing to sell its soul to stay in power for some longer time. But they also confirm that, no matter what the Palestinians offered, no matter how many of Israel's (and the US's) pre-conditions they met, Israel's answer was still the same (NO). So now it would be funny to hear the same old hasbara apologists repeat "they have no partner", and parrot about "missing opportunities". It is clear that Israel has never been interested in creating a sovereign state for the Palestinians. All they want is to keep the status quo, deflect international criticism by pretending to negotiate, and go on with their land grab until they settle the whole West Bank with Jewish settlers (Palestinians conveniently confined in reservations/bantustans, out of sight and tightly controlled). Prof Juan Cole extracted the quote from Tzipi Livni which confirms what everybody knows: “Israel takes more land [so] that the Palestinian state will be impossible . . . the Israel policy is to take more and more land day after day and that at the end of the day we’ll say that is impossible, we already have the land and we cannot create the state”. She conceded that it had been “the policy of the government for a really long time”.
