Gaza leader threatens Israel

2012-01-09 12:39

Tunis - The prime minister in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip on Sunday promised "difficult days" for Israel, and at a rally in Tunis urged Arab Spring revolutionaries to fight for an independent Palestine.

Ismail Haniya received an ovation from the crowd of some 5 000 people gathered in a stadium waving Palestinian, Tunisian and Hamas flags.

"Israel no longer has allies in Egypt and in Tunisia, we are saying to the Zionist enemies that times have changed and that the time of the Arab Spring, the time of the revolution, of dignity and of pride has arrived," he said to loud cheers.

"We promise you that we will not cede a single part of Palestine, we will not cede Jerusalem, we will continue to fight and we will not lay down our arms," he said.

He urged "the people of the revolution to fight the army of Al-Quds" as Jerusalem is known in Arabic.

Terrorist organisation

"To Tunisia we say: It is us today who are going to build the new Middle East."

Haniya insisted "We will not recognise Israel", as the crowd chanted: "Death to Israel", "The Tunisian revolution supports Palestine", and "The army of Muhammed is back".

Some wiped their feet on the Star of David.

Haniya arrived in Tunis on Thursday for a five-day visit at the invitation of the new Islamist-led Tunisian authorities. He has also visited Egypt, Sudan and Turkey and will next travel to Qatar and Bahrain.

Hamas is considered a terrorist organisation by Western powers.

Haniya's visit does not sit well with representatives of the Palestinian Authority led by president Mahmud Abbas.

"The Palestinians are furious," one source said.

Jews in Tunisia asked the government earlier on Sunday to take steps to avoid a repeat of anti-Semitic slogans chanted during the Hamas leader's visit.

"No Tunisian should be insulted, and the government must take measures to ensure this incident is never repeated," said Peres Trabelsi, a representative of Tunisia's small Jewish population, after the incident.

"Certain members of the community were frightened after this incident, but you have to make a distinction between the situation in the Middle East and here," said the chief rabbi of Tunis, Haim Bittan.

Islamist activists welcoming Haniya were heard chanting slogans like: "Kill the Jews, it is our duty", along with anti-Israeli and pro-Palestinian messages.

"There are no Zionists in Tunisia and we don't want to be mixed into the problems of the Middle East," said Trabelsi. "Tunisia is our country."

Tunisia has one of the Arab world's largest Jewish minorities, numbering about 1 500 individuals in a population of more than 10 million.

The population has shrunk drastically from the 100 000 Jews who lived in Tunisia after independence in 1956.

Ajmi Lourimi, a member of the moderate Islamist Ennahda party, said the slogans were an isolated incident that did not reflect the views of the government.

Ennahda in December said Jews living in the north African country were citizens with "all their rights and duties".

Those comments came in response an invitation by Israel's Deputy Prime Minister Silvan Shalom for Tunisian Jews to settle in Israel.

Asked about the anti-Semitic slogans, Haniya said: "We are not against the Jews because they are Jews. Our problem is with those who occupy the land of Palestine.

"The Jews are all over the world and Hamas is not targeting them," he added, speaking from the airport.

Based on the article Israel started the mudslinging. What did they expect the Palestinians to do, applaud ? Israel needs to be taught a lesson.

      DeWet - 2012-01-09 13:44

Uhm Barry, If you read the news on the 29th of december. Rockets were fired on Israel.... http://www.news24.com/World/News/Gaza-rockets-hit-Israel-20111229 Just remember one thing. The Iranian allies are become hot headed as apparently Iran has enriched its first Uranium rods. QUOTE** it has been estimated that Israel possesses from 75 to as many as 400 nuclear weapons, which are reported to include thermonuclear weapons in the megaton range** Iran is heavily outmatched. Dont attack Israel, you will suffer in the long run. The last time they attacked Israel through Gaza like this. Israel went and occupied it. (2008 if im not mistaken) over 1400 palistinians dies and only 13 Israelis died. Israel is not to be messed with... eventually it will come down to Israel and its allies vs Iran and its allies (ie palistine etc)

      Lloyd - 2012-01-09 17:25

maybe you need to be taught a lesson...

      Barry - 2012-01-09 19:00

Unless I am mistaken, the people of Palestine are human beings. Unlike the Israeli Defence Force with their total ejaculation every time they kill innocent people in Palestine. Seems most commentators here are not human ?

It's become difficult indeed for Israel DIPLOMATICALLY as more nations are getting gatvol of their belligerence.

      Graziella - 2012-01-09 14:35

Jews who spread such vindictive lies ought to strangle themselves in their own guts -- and spare the world their venom!

      BA - 2012-01-09 14:46

Graziella - yesterday in an article concerning the cutting of the US military budget, you expressly denied the Holocaust and the genocide in Tibet by the Chinese. The only conclusions I can draw about you accusing me of lying are that you are insane, a psychopath, or just so confused by your hate-filled mind that you can't remember. I am very happy to direct you to the article with your comments in black and white. You have a sick mind, whoever you are. Very sick and disgusting.

      Kobus - 2012-01-09 14:50

Graziella, your intense hatred towards Israel is going to make yourself self destruct. You must be a very bitter person full of hatred and dreadfully unhappy spewing such hatred all the time.

      Graziella - 2012-01-09 14:59

@Kobus Who knows it feels it! @BA The lies am referring to are in regards to the holohoax and I gave you my reasons for that. Another significant argument against the inflated six million figure is that the Jewish center, Yad Vashen -- The Martyrs Foundation, interested in confirming the six million -- confessed in 1973 that after twenty-seven years of trying, it had been able to document only "2.5 million Nazi victims": "Twenty-seven years after the end of World War II, the Jews are still counting and identifying their dead from the Nazi holocaust... More than 2.5 million dead have been documented... It will be impossible to reach the six million figure... But, I hope we can get to four million." (The Sun, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jan. 30, 1973 The International Search Service (ITS) in Arolsen/Waldeck, subsidiary of the International Committee of the Red Cross, can establish only 238,000 deaths. Wiegand replied as follows (November 21, 1966): Apparently the UNO and the Red Cross have some years ago calculated the number of regrettable casualties as between 250,000 and 300,000. Statistics of millions... belong in the realm of legend and propaganda.

      Linda - 2012-01-09 15:08

Oh my aching nerves! Not you again. Go back to your own planet, Grazialla.

      DiamondDirk - 2012-01-09 16:12

@Graziella - Are you reading your own post? Whether it is 6 mill or 10,000 people, genocide and holocaust is when a mass amount of people are murdered by a dictator. It is deemed a holocaust when more then 1,000 people are killed. Looking at the comments and your own response, you must be a Nazi or Palestinian.

      Graziella - 2012-01-09 16:49

@Dirk I know what a genocide is. The Jews have been terrorizing the world with their Holocaust-stories long enough. Those greedy leeches have furthermore sucked up money like crazy due to their Holocaust-stories, a very profitable business it is, this Holocaust-business. Read Norman Fickelstein's The Holocaust Industry.

      BA - 2012-01-09 17:12

You are a disgusting blood-filled tick. Even if you were right, which you are not, 250,000 people murdered is not enough for you. You call that a business? You dismiss that? May God curse you and make you suffer.

      Juan - 2012-01-09 19:49

@Graziella Hitler would have been proud of you. You would have landed a nice job in his propaganda department

      Graziella - 2012-01-09 19:59

Hitler's unspeakable annihilation project can't be laid to rest and shouldn't. But excruciating historical experiences do not entitle a nation to grab land, to humiliate, to destroy the livelihoods of others and to expect no censure; in effect to the international law.

      Juan - 2012-01-09 20:09

Isreal grabbed the land as a result of the Arab states amassing troops on the Israeli border and declaring war on Isreal. Nasser declared the Straits closed to Israeli shipping on May. 22–23. On 27 May he stated "Our basic objective will be the destruction of Israel. The Arab people want to fight." Those Arabs got what they deserved.

I Stand behind Israel 100% btw - Israel's Nuclear capablilties far exceed that of any other middle East country. In fact they are one of the top in the world. So I would be careful if I was palastine. The only reason why Israel is not using them is because America said they would sever ties if that happened. Just because Iran is apparently making progress the rest of the Iranian allies start becoming Cocky.... Israels army, defence force and technological capabilities are of the finest in the World. The main problem is, in the event of a full blown invasion or fully wscalated war, it will turn out to be a World war as everyone will be forced to choose sides. Which side will you be on? We stand behind you Israel.

      Bones - 2012-01-09 15:49

Although I support neither Hamas, nor Israel, I do think that this is a very volatile situation, as Russia and Iran are "allies, much the same as the US and Israel. The problem is that none of the people in the area of Israel and Palestine wants to cede anything. So they make it the rest of the worlds problem, costing trillions which could have been spent in a much better manner.

      Jaba - 2012-01-09 17:48

Israel is the ONLY country in the Middle East with a net gain in the number of Christian citizens in the last 15 years!!! as opposed to the racist and apartheid like life that is happing in the Arab world against Christians. The number of Christians facing prosecution in Egypt, Lebanon, Syria etc is growing every day as the Arab spring has turned out to be a fanatical Arab winter... Israel is a true democracy where Jews, Muslims and Christian all get to vote and live their lives. I am 100% with Israel as well... and when Russia, China and the rest of the anti- Israel crowd learn who the real haters are then Israel would start receiving the support they should be form the rest of us... unfortunately many are blinded by a billion strong anti-Israel campaign (with fake profiles) like Graziella or Barry for example. Long live Israel and May the Lord change the hate of those sad people and turn their hate to love

@ DeWet - please do NOT use the Royal plural 'We' speak for yourself... I would like to see BOTH sides; Israel and Palestine have equal power, Nuclear etc... then you will see how quickly all these idiots will come to forward to the Peace process. At the moment, as long as Israel has US backing; there will never be Peace in the ME. http://www.jewsagainstzionism.com/antisemitism/nazisupport.cfm BA, Zak and Jaba could not find jobs in Isreal... that is why they here to instigate and keep everyone in check...

isreal`s days are numbered and just as apartheid South Africa vanished so will the zionist racist apartheid entity called isreal. All their firepower, will be nothing when the time comes for isreal to disappear into the dustbin of history.

      BA - 2012-01-09 14:16

The vicious slander about Israel being an apartheid state is a blatant lie told by those that hate Israel and wish to deligtimize her. In Israel ALL citizens have FULL rights to own land where they want, live where the want, work they want. In palestine, selling land to a Jew is punishable by death. Hamas is calling for the death of all Jews. And you have the nerve to call Israel an apartheid state?!? You can fool the ignorant masses who don't know any better, but don't post just igorant rubbish on this site where there are people who know the truth. Israel will never, never, never vanish. Not unless people like you and all the Jew-hating muslims get their wish and kill every single one of us.

      StarStruck - 2012-01-09 15:32

    1) I would just like to add a comment about Graziella (even though “she” uses a fake profile and whose real name & gender is probably a teenage boy that goes by some middle eastern name) May she and 'her' kind (racists) burn in hell. 2) Whenever people talk about the Israeli question, it inevitably ends in a chicken and egg style argument about who occupied where illegally first. The bottom line is, if Hamas and the other political groups in the disputed regions began acting more like civilised political parties rather than terrorists with the sole aim of killing Israeli civilians (remember, if Israel had the same aim this whole issue wold have been put to bed years ago due to their military might) then Israel would not have a leg to stand on and the US and the west would have no choice but to put pressure to bear on Israel to make concessions to the now truly peaceful and democratic Palestinians. I have never and can never support any terrorist organisation who supports the killing of innocent civilians no matter how just they believe their cause.
