Girl back with family after 2004 tsunami

2011-12-23 08:10

Banda Aceh - A girl who was swept away in the Indian Ocean tsunami seven years ago has been reunited with her parents.

Fifteen-year-old Wati showed up at a cafe in Meulaboh, a city in Aceh province, earlier this week, saying she'd been forced to work as a beggar and had finally broken free.

She said she was looking for her family.

Wati was led to a man named Ibrahim, her grandfather, who summoned her parents, Yusniar and Yusuf.

The parents said they lost three daughters when the tsunami that killed 230 000 people in a dozen nations slammed into their tiny village of Ujong Baroh.

The mother, Yusniar, said she recognised Wati by the small scar over her eyebrow and a mole on her hip.

How many other "dead" people is being held against their own will to work as slaves, where did she work as a slave and is there others there. Surely what a nice story but I honestly think a few other families can be reunited, "Broken Free" that means she was treated like a dog.

i think if they should give this story as much publicity as possibly because there definately should be lots being held against their will and this would be their only way to freedom

      Joan - 2011-12-23 12:48

That came into my mind too Willie, when I read the story. I am delighted she broke free and is back with her family, but she probably wasn't the only one in slavery. Should be investigated wouldn't you say?

  • Sannie - 2011-12-24 05:47

These people with thumbs down to this remarkable story think that the girl is an ANC member or an African. These haters will stop at nothing to discredit the ANC and Africans.
