Haiti storms, mudslides kill at least 11
Port-au-Prince - Officials in Haiti say rain storms and mudslides have killed at least 11 people.
Marie Alta Jean-Baptiste of Haiti's civil protection department told Radio Galaxie on Tuesday that the people died in mudslides or drowned.
Thunderstorms passed through the Caribbean on Monday, triggering mudslides and forcing thousands to leave their homes.
The heavy rain paralysed Haiti's capital. Roads turned to rivers and debris swept down hillsides.
Tens of thousands of people were exposed to the pounding rain because they remain holed up in flimsy tent-and-tarp settlements that emerged after last year's earthquake.
