Hamas fires rockets at Israel

2012-06-19 19:34

Gaza City - The armed wing of Gaza's ruling Hamas movement on Tuesday said it fired 10 rockets at Israel in a rare show of force after three Israeli air strikes killed six Palestinians.

The claim came shortly after Israel on Tuesday afternoon staged another air strike over Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, injuring two men on a motorcycle, one of them critically, medical officials said.

Such fire by the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, which generally maintains a tacit truce with Israel, is very rare.

"This is our answer to the Zionist crimes. It will continue if they carry out more strikes on Gaza," a statement said.

The Israeli military confirmed that 11 rockets had hit southern Israel since midnight. Another three rockets had been fired on Monday.

A military spokesperson also confirmed there was "a targeted strike" on Deir al-Balah which was aimed at militants "responsible for the rockets fired at Israel over the past few hours".

Army figures show that since the start of 2012, Gaza militants have fired more than 290 rockets into Israel.

Earlier on Tuesday, medics recovered the bodies of two Palestinian teenagers after an early morning air strike, also in Deir al-Balah.

This raised to six the number of Palestinians killed in a series of Israeli strikes since Monday, all carried out just hours after a deadly ambush along Israel's southern border with Egypt.

Breach the fence

Israel has said the sudden spike - three deadly air raids in just over 12 hours - was "in no way related" to the border incident, with the military saying the air force targeted militants planning or engaged in anti-Israeli attacks.

The overnight strike which killed two 17-year-old youths took place shortly after midnight but their bodies were only recovered after dawn "when an ambulance could get to the scene," medics told AFP.

Hospital staff named the pair as Mohammed Bassem Abu Mealiq and Yusef al-Talbani. Witnesses said they had been trying to breach the fence bordering Israel when they were hit.

The military said it had targeted "a terrorist squad handling an explosive device" near the security fence in central Gaza.

On Monday, four Palestinians were killed in two Israeli sorties over Beit Hanun in northern Gaza that also wounded three other people, medics said.

One of those killed was identified by the Qassam Brigades as one of its militants: 23-year-old Jihad Abu Shbab. The second victim, Mohammed al-Zaanin, 25, was not affiliated with any armed faction.

Israel said it had targeted "a terrorist squad attempting to fire a rocket at Israel."

Earlier in the day, another strike targeted a motorcycle east of Beit Hanun, killing two Islamic Jihad activists in their 20s, Mohammed Shabat and Ismail Odeh, medics and witnesses said.

Snipers

The military said they were part of a "squad of snipers operating near the security fence in the northern Gaza Strip" that had fired at an Israeli farmer working near the fence last Thursday.

The last major flare-up in Gaza was in March when four days of tit-for-tat violence left 26 Palestinians dead, and saw militants firing more than 200 rockets into Israel.

The fighting erupted when Israel assassinated a militant leader from the Popular Resistance Committees whom it said was responsible for planning an attack along Israel's southern border with Egypt in August 2011 in which gunmen sneaked over the frontier and killed eight Israelis.

Within hours, Israel hit back at Gaza, sparking eight days of bloodshed that left 26 Palestinians and an Israeli dead.

Monday's border attack raised fears Israel would once again hold Gaza militants responsible, although there was no such claim in the immediate aftermath of the incident in which an Israeli civilian and two gunmen died.

Asked about the possible involvement of groups from Gaza, Israeli military spokesperson Avital Leibovich said: "There is speculation about that. Intelligence is checking right now."

It's time Israel bombs these squatters back to the stone age! Jerusalem belongs to Israel! Always has and always will. Jerusalem was never the capital, nor did it ever belong to any Muslim country or entity. The Jordanians never even sought to make Jerusalem it's capital during the occupation. The prophet Muhammed never even set foot in Jerusalem, nor is it ever mentioned in the Quran! Fact! God calls Israel the apple of His eye! No Palestinian or any evil Muslim force will conquer Israel! Period!

      Boer - 2012-06-19 21:36

I agree one hundred percent with yo Anneke.

Israel defending itself. Nothing wrong with that...

      jerzy.bondov.5 - 2012-06-19 21:44

Palestinians defending against jewish apartheid. Nothing wrong with that

      Larry - 2012-06-19 21:52

Israel and Gaza ia as apart as France and Germany. That is not apartheid, it is two seperate countries in conflict. The apartheid thing is wearing thin. Have you got nothing else?

      cameronrh1 - 2012-06-19 21:54

And jerzy what about Israel makes it an apartheid state? The fact that Arab citizens share the same and equal rights as the Jewish citizens? That they are represented in parliament (knesset)? That they have Arab judges who just so happened to have sentenced an ex Israeli President to 7 years in jail for rape if i am correct. The fact that they are not segregrated like SA apartheid was and they co exist together, apart from various areas where they willingly choose to live apart from each other? You need to get your definition of Apartheid correct and stop believe everything you are spoon fed.

      anneck.cranke - 2012-06-19 22:22

Jerzy, young Palestinian kids as young as 4 carrying AK-47s. Brainwashed and taught to hate instead of given a soccer ball to play with! Evidence of the sick, twisted mentality these Palestinians have!

      Larry - 2012-06-19 22:41

If France and Germany were at war, as was the case, one or the other would have their foot on the others neck. As it happened, nazi Germany invaded France during the second world war and had its jackboot firmly on the neck of every Frenchman and woman. Point is, they are seperate countries with seperate people, and their differences then and now does not make it 'apartheid' other than that they ARE apart. No different to Israel as a state being apart from Palestinian as an entity in two apart regional areas.

      Larry - 2012-06-19 22:42

I swear it's like hand signing to a blind person. I dont know why I waste my time with this shmuck.

      anneck.cranke - 2012-06-19 23:12

No Patrick. It's because you believe the lies Hamas love to show you on television! No truth in what you say! Larry I agree with you. We know the truth bottom line. Unfortunately it's the blind anti-semites that we will never get through to until the truth actually slaps them in the face one day.

      Larry - 2012-06-20 20:09

The reason why you troll here is because you crave attention, and are purposefully obstreperous to ensure that you get that attention. Typical pathos of a person of low self-esteem and a scarcity mentality. Nobody notices you in real life, so you insinuate yourself here as a made up persona, something like pretending to be a sixteen year old girl, when you are a sixty year old man. Shame.

      Larry - 2012-06-21 06:56

Not all that I am good for, but it's all that you are good for.

      Larry - 2012-06-21 22:18

The only answer to your depraved idiocy is insult heaped upon insult, even though they are not insults. They are reasoned observations, but you will of course see them as insults because they strike home.

  • jaba.kov - 2012-06-19 20:20

Dear Israel: Deterrence can not be achieved by bombing sand dunes and the occasional motorcycle. It is time for Israel to adopt the US practice in Pakistan and Afgan against the Taliban of using drone strikes to kill any Hamas target that is caught in the open air in a "suspect" building. What? the US and NATO are going to object to Israel doing exactly what they are doing??? Missile attacks from Gaza should be met with a cut off of all food, water, fuel and medicine - how much of this aid does the US and NATO send to the Taliban strongholds in Waziristan? NONE. Israel should be making a concerted effort to kill Haniyah, Zohar and the other leadership of Hamas and the companion terrogroups. Its not like they are ever going to make peace and recognize Israel, so DESTROY them.

      anneck.cranke - 2012-06-19 21:13

Jaba, all the food, water, fuel and medicine that the Palestinians get go straight to Hamas and it's militants. The Palestinian people live in poverty because all the money Hamas gets from it's sponsors (Iran), American and U.N. aid, is spent on weapons and rockets and Militant training! Hamas uses the normal Palestinian civilian as propaganda, making idiots like Mr. Edwards believe what they want him to see - that Israel is at fault and the aggressor toward the Palestinian people. The way Hamas control and brainwash their own people is very much the same as in North Korea, where youth rallies and summer camps are held, not for the kids to enjoy games of football or baseball, but for them to be brainwashed into believing that Kim Jong-Un is the father and savior of the North Korean people! Yet all the money is spent on the North Korean military and it's nuclear program! Zimbabwe is another example: Robert Mugabe spends Zimbabwe's money on lavish holidays, etc!

      Larry - 2012-06-19 21:57

But Israel is in the Middle East, Lesego. Should be, shouldn't be, could have, would have; - and its going to stay there forever. So stop with the immature blabbing. I'm with Jaba and Anneck.

      anneck.cranke - 2012-06-19 22:18

Patrick, where then was Jerusalem founded originally???? In the States?

      anneck.cranke - 2012-06-19 22:28

Larry at the time Israel officially came into it's own in the late 1800s to early 1900s, only Muslims in that area were the ones that moved there seeking work from the Jews. Before Jewish migrants even moved into the area, the land was uninhabited. Only people living in the towns and cities in that area were mostly Christian and Jews.

      anneck.cranke - 2012-06-19 23:16

What's that Patrick? Israel defending itself against terrorists? Building homes on it's own land? Expanding it's own city of Jerusalem? What you don't get is the the Palestinians that choose to live in Israel WILL NOT dictate as to where Israel can and cannot build homes - IN ISRAEL! This includes it's own city of JERUSALEM!

      Larry - 2012-06-21 06:59

Oh get off your stupid rant, Lesego. Your notion that Israel can be moved is childish in the extreme. Something like wanting an elephant for your birthday. Israel is very happy exactly where it is, smack bang in the Middle East.

  • jaba.kov - 2012-06-19 22:02

This all started when Islamic terrorists killed an Israeli worker on the border Yesterday... but it gets better... Its important that we find out what these people say not only to the media but amongst themselves; According to a report being circulated from a journalist interviewing one of their leaders (Islamic Jihad) after the border attack yesterday which killed an Israeli citizen. In the midst of their jubilation and celebration of their so called 'victory' the journalist asked Question: "Did you know that the person you killed was a Muslim?" Answered dismissively 'These people are ALL traitors - AND they are not real Muslims. We are proud of our victory'

  • anneck.cranke - 2012-06-19 23:43

God forbid, should a Palestinian state come into being with Jerusalem as it's capital, every last Israeli would be murdered or thrown out of Jerusalem, militant groups such as Hamas would continue in their quest to drive Israelis off their land, and only then will we see where the root of evil REALLY lies!

      Larry - 2012-06-20 20:24

Again. There is a distinction between a civil war conflict, such as that of SA and Zim, where the combatants were citizens of the same country, to that of war conflict between two nations. The 'terrorist' label is wrong and mis-used in the civil conflict scenario. The 'terrorist' label in attacks on the civilians of another nation or religion or religious sect, is correctly attributed, and Hamas, Hisballah and Al Qaida are terrorists, never to be confused with freedom fighters.

      anneck.cranke - 2012-06-20 21:06

Lol, Patrick. What will you say when the ANC youth league takes over? Better run for cover my friend!

      anneck.cranke - 2012-06-20 21:29

A democratic take over Patrick. Why don't you look around you? The ANC youth league with it's racist remarks, calling for forceful removal of whites from their farms. Already the evidence is clear with another farm murder in Limpopo! Read about it everyday on this site! Their wish to drive out foreign investment! Their calls for war against whites! And you call that democratic???? What do you smoke, Patrick?

      anneck.cranke - 2012-06-20 23:23

Patrick, you are the dumbest, most stubborn person going on here. Larry was right. You're just on here to get attention. A sixty year old man that has probably ended up prematurely in a care home.

      Larry - 2012-06-21 07:05

Anneck, you have it wrong. I outed Patrick as one Lesego, a young black faceless male pretending to blog as a middle aged white male, so as to purposefully present an obstructionist viewpoint. I figure him to be an ANCYL member, or a wannabe member. He has made comments like "Mugabe is a true African Hero", and "Whites think they are superior". He is a troll of the worst kind. But then he will see that as a compliment.

      Larry - 2012-06-21 20:30

You can have your reality, Lesego. Fortunately the real world is run by adults and not adolescents. Your thinking gives you away. It is not the colour of your skin, it is the 'dark' colour of your mentality. It allows no illumination. The brain is one or two Zulu's short of an impi. I would love to just look into your eyes, if only to confirm that vacuous look that comes with limited thought processing. Then I might just cuff you for being such an ass.

  • anneck.cranke - 2012-06-21 20:53

    Larry, thanks! Still sad anyway.

      anneck.cranke - 2012-06-21 22:59

I am not Jewish, nor am I a racist, Lesego! Typical when a person stands against you because of your anti-semitic hate speech, you hide behind your "racist" card! Are you a filthy Islamic militant wannabe who wishes to blow yourself up in a crowded market place?

      Sharon - 2012-06-24 14:31

anneck, you and larry fall for this floppys bull every time, cant you see its craving attention,it fancys itself as another malema and is trying to create a following on news 24,ignore it and it will go back to its goats

  • anneck.cranke - 2012-06-21 23:14

Lesego, AGAIN let me point out to you as to WHY there never was and NEVER WILL BE A PALESTINE! 1. IT NEVER EXISTED! 2. WHY DID NOT AND EGYPT ESTABLISH A "PALESTINIAN STATE"? FOR 19 YEARS JORDAN CONTROLLED THE WEST BANK AND EGYPT CONTROLLED THE GAZA STRIP! NOW THESE HYPOCRITICAL NATIONS DEMAND FOR ISRAEL TO DO WHAT THEY WOULDN'T HAVE DREAMED OF DOING - GIVE THE DISORGANIZED MIGRANT WORKERS A STATE!!!! WAKE UP LESEGO!!!! 3. JERUSALEM WAS FOUNDED BY THE JEWISH KING DAVID! What you are so blind to is that these Palestinians have been continually cheated and brutalized by their own Muslim brothers, but there is such an endemic hatred of the Jews that dates back over 4000 years that the Muslims can easily divert the blame from themselves to the Jews! And you are so gullible, you will believe ANYTHING Hamas shows you on television!

      Dee - 2012-06-22 01:02

This course of debate is as helpful as the "who owned the land first in SA" ?? Even real Sabra's in Israel have articulated to me a way more moderate view to what you express here Anneck. I've long thought the never ending conflict will only be resolved with creation of e.g "Palestrael" .... a combined common country with a united destiny. Franchised / disproportionate political representation if necessary - and a common constitution respecting both religious groups. An amnsety and T&Recon process probably necessary too for the atrocities committed on both sides. Sigh.... Now don't SHOUT AT ME PLEASE - I'm non-religious enough to spot the irony & extreme difficulty religious groups in particular have with the notion of loving thine neighbours:))

      fidel.mgoqi - 2012-06-22 01:37

@Anneck What a stupid excuse of a comment. South Africa, Australia, Kosovo, Kuwait, USA, etc, have all never existed at some time in history, but there were people living there. Israel can not survive unless it learns how to get along with its neighbours, which will mean learning to play by the neighbours rules. If Israel does not learn to get along with its neighbors, eventually the neighbours will remove it. No amount of nuclear threats or US force will stop the neighbours. This is the harsh reality Israelis can not seem to grasp - they can NOT maintain their hold on the land forever by shear force because every group that has tried to use force to maintain their rule for the last 5000 years has ALWAYS failed. Israel will fail also.

      anneck.cranke - 2012-06-22 04:17

Fidel, you know nothing my friend. Your gullibility knows no bounds! Another Hamas worshipper! Another one who has it all twisted the wrong way around! As long as the Palestinians continue to live on Israeli soil, they should put up, or shut up!

      Sharon - 2012-06-24 14:33

aneck, you are allowing him to pull your chain again

  • denise.ryan.5203 - 2012-06-22 00:49

In the mid-1800s poor migrant workers from the surrounding Muslim countries began to flood in to work for the Jews – almost all of the people calling themselves “Palestinians” today are the descendants of those migrant workers. “Palestinians” are not a homogeneous people, but rather a mixed conglomerate of migrant workers with no cohesive organizational or political skills. When the Hashemite Tribe, who were rulers over Mecca and Medina for centuries, were driven out by the Saudis, the British gave them control over the vastly greater numbers of “migrant workers” in Trans Jordan. The British said this would be, in effect, “The State of Palestine.” Instead, the Hashemites, who make up only about 20% of the population, turned it into their own kingdom and called it the Kingdom of Jordan. When the Jordanians and Egyptians controlled the so-called West Bank and the Gaza Strip for 19 years (1948 to 1967), there was never a thought of giving the disorganized mass of “migrant workers” a state. Why? Because they knew there was no cohesive, homogeneous people known as “Palestinians.” The current efforts of Jordan and Egypt (and all the rest of the Muslim Middle East nations) to give these same people a state is clearly a ploy to get a foothold inside Israel. It is a strategic accommodation to establish a base from which the final assault against Israel can be made.

      fidel.mgoqi - 2012-06-22 00:54

The Israelis are more about claiming to be one race/tribe despite being a collected rabble of mostly Americans and Europeans who moved there since WWII, with mostly ideological links between them. There is no such thing as a pure race!

      anneck.cranke - 2012-06-22 04:24

No such thing as a Palestinian Fidel. You yourself are a complete waste of air! I am beginning to think you and Selego are the same people, since you both make exactly the same dumb comments typical of an ANC Youth League wannabee who craves attention!

      Sharon - 2012-06-24 14:35

fidel,so you lot are pure bred, the hight of confusion in the t/ships is fathers day

  • anneck.cranke - 2012-06-22 04:31

You can also consider this Fidel as a response to your comment which you can't seem to get into your thick, wooden head: Australia, Kuwait, USA - people always having lived there! This land, this so called Palestine: NO PEOPLE LIVED THERE! NONE! ONLY PEOPLE YOU COULD FIND LIVING IN THE TOWNS AND CITIES OF THAT AREA WERE CHRISTIAN AND JEWS WHO FLED EUROPE BECAUSE OF PERSECUTION!
