Impatient fliers 'hijack' plane

2012-10-19 16:16

New Delhi - Indian news reports say that a panicked pilot hit the hijack alert button after angry passengers stormed his cockpit after being made to wait for more than four hours on the runway.

Press Trust of India reported that an Air India Express flight from Abu Dhabi to the southern Indian city of Kochi was diverted to Trivandrum, the capital of the southern state of Kerala, because of fog. The plane then waited there for more than four hours.

Security officials surrounded the plane after the pilot hit the hijack alert button, PTI reported.

PTI quoted local officials as saying the police calmed the angry passengers and the flight then took off for Kochi.

No other details were immediately available.

To me flying is a necessary evil I have to do every now and again, and hope to get over as fast as possible. If I had to sit on the runway for more than 4 hours, I would probably also go ballistic. A runway is a controlled environment, so send a bus to get those poor people off and out of their misery.

I'm happy that the passengers took action. Look what happened at Gatwick where passengers were held hostage by the airline for NINE HOURS after a long flight - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2049827/Air-India-plane-stranded-Gatwick-Airport-NINE-hours-heavy-fog.html
