Indonesian maid charged for dumping baby
Hong Kong - Hong Kong police charged an Indonesian maid with murder on Saturday for allegedly dumping her newborn baby in a rubbish bin.
A police spokesperson said a friend of the woman had also been charged with murder. The two will appear in court on Monday.
The friend, aged 32, is alleged to have helped dump the baby in a public bin shortly after the 26-year-old maid gave birth on November 16.
Police officers on Thursday began sifting through tons of rubbish at a landfill site in search for the infant after an employer of the maid's friends heard what had happened and alerted the police.
The baby has not been found.
Hong Kong is home to more than 300 000 maids from Indonesia and the Philippines.
There have been cases in the past of maids giving birth secretly in their employers' homes and disposing of the infants by flushing them down toilets or throwing them from high-rise apartment blocks.
