Interpol seeks Italian for murder

Caracas - Interpol was searching for an Italian wanted in the killing of a Frenchman in Venezuela whose chopped up body was thrown out to sea inside a suitcase, police said on Saturday.

Police said the suspect was the helper of the victim, who DNA analysis identified as Paul Maurice Wolnerman, 71. Relatives had also contacted the French embassy in Caracas to inquire about Wolnerman's disappearance.

The Italian suspect, who was not named, "has left the country," according to police. The authorities said Wolnerman was shot dead on 28 April in the port city of Lecheria.

Another suspect, identified as Roger Del Valle Rendon, 45, was arrested in nearby Puerto la Cruz. Rendon, who has admitted participating in the murder, was Wolnerman's driver and the "direct author" of the crime, police said.

Wolnerman, who lived in Venezuela since 2005, had decided to sell his penthouse, car and motorboat and move to the Dominican Republic with his butler, according to the investigation.
