Iran, al-Qaeda told to pay $6bn for 9/11

2012-08-01 09:01

New York — Al-Qaeda, the Taliban and Iran should pay $6bn to relatives of 11 September victims for aiding in the 2001 terrorist attacks, a federal magistrate judge recommended on Monday in a largely symbolic decision.

Even though it will be nearly impossible to collect damages, plaintiff Ellen Saracini, whose husband, Victor, was the captain of one of the aircraft that struck the World Trade Centre, told the Daily News that she is happy about Manhattan Federal Magistrate Judge Frank Maas' recommendation.

"It's hard being happy, but I am happy about it," said Saracini. "But it opens up old wounds. We were never in it for a lawsuit. I wanted to know what happened to my husband."

Last year, Judge George Daniels signed a default judgment on the lawsuit brought by relatives of 47 victims. He found al-Qaeda, the Taliban and Iran liable and asked the magistrate to determine damages. Maas' ruling Monday is a recommendation to Daniels, who can accept it or amend it.

Material support

Maas calculated punitive and compensatory damages for each of the plaintiffs and their lost family members.

Daniels ruled last year that the plaintiffs had established that the 2001 attacks were caused by the support the defendants provided to al-Qaeda.

The findings said Iran continues to provide material support and resources to al-Qaeda by providing a safe haven for al-Qaeda leadership and rank-and-file members.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has repeatedly denied any Iranian connection in the 11 September attacks or with al-Qaeda.

Al-Qaeda and Iran are natural enemies but have had a relationship of convenience based on their shared adversary, the United States. Iran allowed several of the 9/11 hijackers to pass through the country, but the 9/11 Commission found no evidence that Iran was aware of the planned attack.

What a joke. Where is Irak in the jugement, was that not the reason why the janks invaded Irak?

Joke indeed! I wonder even if the Al-Qaeda was involved in this 9/11 attacks! Bush is part of the Illuminati and it would not surprise me if these attacks were a plan on the US' books.

Yeah they seem to have forgotten about Afghanistan & Iraq... If they are looking for war with Iran, all they have to do is ask. Funny they didnt ask Saudi Arabia for money or even Pakistan, they've been harboring Al-Qaeda for years!

No Saudi Arabia? Remember where the majority of the 11th September hijackers came from? A lot of Sunni's too if I recall correctly. The Saudis have lots of oil and lots of money. They are an important market for US businesses (ie construction, defense). The Saudis are in a trebly privileged position, being both allies and customers of western governments and their corporate paymasters. This gives the US space and cover up to defend and enhance its hegemony.

Yesterday Keith was adament that al-Quaeda was sponsored by the USA. Now they want to promote hegemony by having a federal magistrate judge recommendeding a largely symbolic decision/fine. charlesmakgale.radingoane had to post twice that "if you do not agree with US they see you as anemy to them" sic. So I assume he does not agree with US and he see them as anemy. Melanie.pienaar.92 thinks it is a joke. A conspiracy theorist pops out of the woodwork. (Bush planned 9/11. Yeah right) America, in a violent manner, lost nearly 3000 citizens in one morning. How would South Africa react if it happened here? Yes more Kurds (certainly more children) were probably killed in the same timespan in one Iraqi minefield. Hopefully this will never happen here. In Poland 1944 sometimes more than 3000 people were killed in one morning. Perhaps a little less anti-West will go a long way. Every country does what they believe (right or wrongly) is best for themself. It is just sad that when looking back it is always the non-democratics/despots/dictators who are usually portryed as the poor downtrodden, misunderstood, discriminated against and bullied little children on the school ground. Especially when they grow up to become wholesale murderes and oppressors in support of an unsound ideology.

      fidel.mgoqi - 2012-08-01 11:33

Those "poor and downtrodden" aren't going around the world bombing other countries with depleted uranium and agent orange, and later install dictators to facilitate the stealing of other countries' resources. Saddam Hussein who you point out murdered Kurds is a US construct, just like Al Qaede which was created and supported by the CIA to fight a proxy war in Afghanistan against the Russians. Just like other countless contras in South America who have ravaged that continent for the best part of the last 50 years. Just like Mobutu Seseko and CIA's involvement in the Congo that has resulted in the mayhem that is still causing millions of deaths per year in that country. All of these are as a result of US foreign policy, which is morally bankrupt.

      CassandraXabata - 2012-08-01 11:47

No Fidel they murder and bomb their own people and then install their children or favourites subsequent to their reign, which usually was established by violence. The US must be the cleverest people on this earth if I have to believe all the false flag and construct operations and missions they allegedly carried and still carry out. You also believe they never landed on the moon? As for the Congo... I have to believe that they could not, or have not the political will, since independence until now put a stop to these MILLIONS of deaths. Must make a huge dent in their population heh. Says a lot for the future of South Africa and Zimbabwe. Can you not for one second actually conceive that some people are actually just plain evil?... Oh wait that is a Huckstarr construct.

      fidel.mgoqi - 2012-08-01 12:47

Yes, Americans are plain evil, it's not that difficult to see that.
