Israel court OKs radical Arab, Jewish candidate

Jerusalem - Israel's Supreme Court has overturned last week's decision by the country's election committee that disqualified two radical politicians - a contentious Arab lawmaker and a hawkish Jewish activist - and is allowing them to run in next month's parliamentary elections.

Wednesday's ruling gave the green light for the two to compete in the March 17 vote.

The Arab lawmaker, Hanin Zoabi, is known for her abrasive style and siding with the Palestinians against Israel. She has a history of angering mainstream Israelis.

She boycotted the playing of the national anthem when she was sworn into Israel's parliament and is active in pro-Palestinian causes.

Baruch Marzel is an activist affiliated with the far-right fringe of the country's nationalists.
