Jamaica to hang child killer
Kingston, Jamaica - A man convicted of killing three children in Jamaica has been sentenced to hang, in the first death sentence since legislators agreed to retain the penalty.
Jeffrey Perry was convicted of killing his cousins - a 15-year-old boy and two girls, ages 4 and 13. The 34-year-old said voices in his head led him to kill.
Residents of the area where the crime occurred beat pots and pans to celebrate Friday's decision.
Legislators in December voted overwhelmingly to retain the death penalty amid rising violence and a series of gruesome attacks on children. More than 1 240 killings were reported last year in the island of 3 million people.
A date for the execution has not been set. Jamaica's last hanging was in 1988.
