Tampa - Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush says US President Barack Obama should stop blaming his brother, former President George W Bush, for the country's economic woes.

Bush said a real leader would accept responsibility for his own policies.

Bush told the Republican convention on Thursday night that his brother is a man of integrity, courage and honour.

The former president is a convention no-show. Republicans aired a short tribute video to George W Bush, but they have barely mentioned him.

Polls show many voters still blame George W Bush for the nation's sputtering economy. Democrats have tried to tie Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney to Bush, charging that Romney would restore many of the former president's policies if elected.

Jeb Bush left office in 2007 and remains influential in Florida and Republican politics.
