Jewish leader: Far-right votes create a bad image

Berlin - The leader of the World Jewish Congress is warning that European voters risk giving their countries a bad name by electing far-right politicians and says he's worried Islamic extremists are trying to "use all means" to stir hatred.

Berlin will host a major rally against anti-Semitism on Sunday after tensions over the Gaza conflict spilled over into demonstrations in Europe that saw anti-Jewish slogans and violence.

In May, European Parliament elections brought successes for far-right parties.

WJC president Ronald Lauder said on Saturday voters should ask themselves who they want to be and "what people see of our country", adding that far-right representatives can give "a bad image".

He voiced concern that Muslim extremist agitators are doing everything they can, particularly via the internet, "to get people angry".
