Washington - US Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry has chosen his former rival Senator John Edwards to be his running mate, US television networks reported on Tuesday.
Kerry was expected to officially announce the decision later on Tuesday.
Edwards, 51, who gave Kerry the toughest run for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination, reportedly cut short his vacation in Florida on Thursday to fly to Washington and meet with Kerry.
NBC television reported on its website that Kerry had actively considered around 25 candidates.
Aides to Kerry would not immediately confirm the report. "We are not commenting at all," said spokesperson Allison Dobson.
