Amman - US Secretary of State John Kerry will join Nato talks in Brussels next week on the crisis in Ukraine, his spokesperson said on Wednesday.

The Tuesday meeting of Nato foreign ministers will "discuss the ongoing crisis in Ukraine and preparations for the upcoming Nato summit in September", Jen Psaki said.

Kerry will also attend special meetings of the Nato-Ukraine Commission, the Nato-Georgia Commission and discuss the situation in Afghanistan with other nations contributing to the international mission in the war-torn country due to wind down this year.

On the sidelines of the Brussels talks, Kerry will also meet with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu to discuss Ukraine and developments in the Middle East.

On the 1 - 5 April trip, Kerry will then travel to Algeria for meetings with top officials ahead of similar talks in Morocco, on his first visit to both countries.

The trip comes after a week-long visit to Europe and Saudi Arabia, during which he arrived on a surprise visit to Amman on Wednesday to meet Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas in the hopes of keeping Middle East peace talks on track.
