Antioch - Metro Nashville police are now saying that the man who waged an attack inside a movie theater was armed with a pellet gun.

Police spokesperson Don Aaron gave the information to The Associated Press moments before police were scheduled to hold a briefing with the latest developments on the attack.

Earlier on Wednesday, authorities had said the assailant , now identified as Vincente Montano, was armed with a regular gun and had exchanged fire with a police officer before being shot dead by a Swat team.

Policesay the man was a 29-year-old local man.

Earlier on Wednesday, police had said the man was 51. Investigators say he was wielding a hatchet and gun and was carrying two backpacks, one of which had a fake device made to look like a bomb.

Metro Nashville Police Chief Steve Anderson said investigators need to fingerprint the attacker and do other analyses before releasing his identity.
