Man arrested after armed siege in London

2012-04-27 16:59

London - The suspect at the centre of a three-hour siege that shut down part of a busy section of central London on Friday has been arrested, police said.

A shirtless man in green khaki pants was seen being led out with his hands behind his back by two unarmed officers. Armed officers followed behind.

Metropolitan Police said the 49-year-old man was in police custody and that searches of the building were ongoing.

British media had claimed that the man was holding people captive, but police said they were "not aware of any hostages at this stage".

One eyewitness claimed earlier that the man had burst into the office of a training company, saying he was ready to blow himself up.

I've never felt unsafe in London once. 2pm or 2am, it doesn't matter. Can you say the same thing about SA's biggest city?

Having lived in London and had friends stabbed here, I don't find it all that safe. There areas I would walk at night and areas I would avoid in the day.

According to Guardian article, the man had taken a training course with this company and then failed the test. He wanted his money back. Probably needed to pass that course to get/keep his job?

In all my years in SA the only thing i have ever been mugged for was a KFC burger at night, i had to give up half, we got no fences, we got no buglar proof doors or windows, we hang out till the early hours of the morning, so where i live is safe, thank The Good Lord.
