Man charged with murder of missing UK girl, 5

2012-10-06 20:05

London - British police investigating the disappearance of a 5-year-old girl in Wales charged a family friend on Saturday with her murder although her body has still not been found.

Mark Bridger, 46, was charged with the abduction and murder of April Jones and with perverting the course of justice, Dyfed Powys police said.

He will appear in court on Monday.

April was last seen getting into a vehicle on Monday evening. She had been playing on her bicycle with a friend near her home in the market town of Machynlleth.

Hundreds of volunteers had turned out to help police search the surrounding countryside.

Her disapperance also triggered the first use of a national alert scheme in Britain for missing children.

Bridger, a former lifeguard, was detained on Wednesday and police took the unusual step of identifying him as they searched for the girl.

Police said on Friday that he had been arrested on suspicion of murder, indicating that they no longer believed she was alive.

The whole of Wales reacted to this tragedy by helping wherever the could. In this country tens of people, including babies, are slaughtered daily and the brave president does not even acknowledge their deaths, express sorrow or resign in utter shame. His first responsibility is to protect the lives of South Africans. Instead he wants a R2 Billion plane and a R200 million upgrade to his private house. Go figure.

George is correct. What he does not add is that it's not just the president. Our entire government does not give a damn. Poitics (and the gravy train) are more important than human lives.

unfortunately this is a common thing in africa.this is not racist comment but a fact.the majority of africans are all about themselves they do not give a dam about anybody else. its always about what they can get and if they screw anyone along the way so be it. they are so jealous they'll burn their neighbors house down if his house is nicer than theirs.

the report is a about a 5yr old girl , missing in Wales! With a Uk citizen arrested on suspision of her abduction and murder! How did that make the SA Gov responsible? How did it become a SA issue? Your dissaproval of SA Gov would have been better received on the topic of text books for 2012 not yet delivered in limpopoto grades 1/2/3 and 10!

They should torture him until he tells them everything he's done. Then execute him.

Do you have info that the police don't or are you going off half cocked. The only link to Mark Bridger that they have is that his vehicle(a grey Range Rover) was seen in the area although witnesses described a white van. What the article neglects to mention is that he has two children that attends the same school in the area as they live in the same estate. Even the two ladies that witnessed a man carrying a black bag next to the river could not identify him. What is also not mentioned is that two attempts were made a few days before by a man and a woman to abduct children in a 60 mile radius from where this case happened.Mark Bridger has an alibi for both these times. I think they are grasping at straws as they only have 24 hours in which to charge a suspect.

My heart goes out to April's parents.....the Polce must have good reason for saying this man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. Bastard!!!!! As for hundreds of volunteers searching for her, these are relatively small places so something like this really makes news and affects the local community, unfortunately it happens more often over here, hence not so newsworthy. I don't mean it isn't important, of course it is whenever any child is abducted, but people have become desensitized and that's really sad.

They should lock him up in the Vatican dungeon and let the priests there feast. Bludy sick man!

The photo really touched my heart. Apparently she suffers from some mild form of cerebral palsy and needs medication every day.
