London - A protester has rushed at Rupert Murdoch as the media baron gave testimony to British lawmakers, causing a scuffle and suspending the hearing.

A man appeared to rush up behind Murdoch and was then struck by Wendi Deng, who jumped up to defend her husband.

Police in the back of the committee room were holding an apparently handcuffed man with white foam covering his face and shirt. The foam also appeared to have spattered Murdoch in the Tuesday afternoon attack.

The hearing was resumed after a brief recess, during which the courtroom was cleared of the public and journalists.

The Guardian newspaper and Sky News named the attacker as a comedian called Jonnie Marbles.

In a message on his Twitter account shortly before the incident, he said: "It is a far better thing that I do now than I have ever done before #splat."

London's Metropolitan Police had no immediate information.

Witness Andy Thompson, a member of the public from Vancouver, western Canada, said he saw the attacker lunge towards Murdoch holding a green bag with shaving foam in it.

If upper class Britain wishes to safe face and the British society, British values of equality and their legal system have any merit then Murdoch must appear in the Old Bailey to explain why he has destroyed lives by dishonest means thus making himself richer on other's demise.

It's no crime to be rich and it seems he didn't get his wealth from crime. BTW his company provides careers and salaries to 57 000 people. How many people do you employ?

Judging by Daniel's spelling and grammar not many
