Marine unit in barbaric video identified

2012-01-12 20:12

Washington - The US Marines have identified the unit whose forces are suspected of being behind a video appearing to show them urinating on the bodies of dead Taliban in Afghanistan, a Marine officer told Reuters on Thursday.

The officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the Marines in question were believed to be from the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marines, which is based out of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

The US was rocked by a similar scandal in Iraq in 2004 after pictures were released of troops torturing inmates at Abu Gharieb prison.

Twenty-seven military intelligence specialists "encouraged" or "participated" in abuses of inmates at Abu Ghraib Prison in Iraq, according to a United States army report in 2005.

Then Defence Minister Donald Rumsfeld at the time banned cellphones fitted with digital cameras in US army installations in Iraq.

The Devil Dogs Killing people is ok, pissing on them is not. Makes you scratch your head.

      GWS - 2012-01-12 21:09

I've got a t-shirt of this unit. Semper Fi.

      Sean - 2012-01-12 21:15

Suppose it`s not right ,but these taliban f@ckers deserve even worse !

      Richard - 2012-01-12 21:23

Couldn't agree more. They deserve far worse. Evil bastards.

      Kenneth M Roselt - 2012-01-12 21:24

Sean, I have to agree with, I have lost friends to these monsters, I have absolutely no respect for them.

      Castle - 2012-01-12 21:48

sorry mate If I was in that unit I would have crapped on them .These evil bastards are killing raping an torturing Afghan women.Planting bombs in Pakistan etc so they deserve worse

      Boer - 2012-01-13 04:48

Putting the US to shame. Not good at all. Marines that act in this way are not the Marines the US is proud of.

  • Leendert - 2012-01-12 20:27

No, of course the 'human' reaction is that it is wrong; however, having 'those' people shooting at you, planting bombs etc, I'm sure that changes your mindset and perspective and I do not find it unthinkable that one would react like that. Whether they should be their in the first place is another matter.

      Kieron - 2012-01-12 21:30

@Leendert, could not agree with you more... before anyone decides to judge, no one could comprehend the mental strain a person must be under in the theater of war... they have been conditioned to literally hate the people who they are fighting against, faced with propaganda and obviously the little fact that their lives are under constant attack... I agree 100% that the act is completely wrong, as will any death in a useless war... but we must be understand the extremes before attempting to pass judgment.

  • Werner - 2012-01-12 20:30

Well, they ARE known as "Betio Bastards"...

  • sycomachinery - 2012-01-12 20:53

Thank America for the Marines, so they had a Piss, so what???

      GWS - 2012-01-12 21:09

Yeah exactly. They hadda go sometime.

      Cracker - 2012-01-12 21:45

@ Hey Stewart You are a liar. Statistics and plain facts and experience do not support your silly statement.

      Lara - 2012-01-12 21:50

Stewart, Rwanda. 800 000 in 1 month. A record, surely.

      Paul - 2012-01-12 21:53

Stewart these white stereotypes always justify what their kind do especially when it shows them up to be the bad ones. Them and their Koevoet boys invented 'water boarding' in the 1970's and one day their turn will come to experience drowning in a bucket.

      Cracker - 2012-01-12 21:59

@ Paul You are a rubbish talker.

  • steph.bredenhann - 2012-01-12 20:53

In my opinion this shows the USA to be what they are; the thugs of the world!!!

      Francisco - 2012-01-12 22:20

humm,Cutting the heads of prisoners it's much better?

  • ryan.macdougall - 2012-01-12 21:01

after 3 or 4 IED's id be very tempted to do the same thing exactly. The only reason there is a hissy fit is because they got caught.

      GWS - 2012-01-12 21:12

Too true. I have lived amongst these guys and I can say for fact that they are highly professional and doing a fine job in that heathen country. It's hell out there.

  • Cracker - 2012-01-12 21:13

It is a WAR that's going on. Lesson: Don't ever volunteer because you will be blamed by politicians when you honestly express your affiliations and emotions inculcated into you by the very training and the very mental hatred you are supposed to feed on to execute and do to your enemies as per the army and the politicians. Add to this the actual practical experiences the troops whet through. What the politicians did NOT go through but instead traveled the world in comfortable luxury making plans for the ordinary people who in the end have no real say anyway. The silly foot ants will pay the penalty, as we saw in our own history while the NP ministers and the high flyers in the opposing camps were enjoying themselves - even having lekker drinks and laughing sessions with each other after the events. LISTEN you f.ckn politicians and lawyers and desk/computer analysts: The troops in that incident are there so you can continue with your comfortable life-styles and opinion forming. F.ck the two-faced, self-promoting politicians AND religionists who are the ones behind it all. Lesson: Don't fall for cr.p and if needs be, the whole USA armed forces should for once stand up to the exploitation of the selfish politicians and religionists. OK. Exclude the fat cats in the military hierarchy but the lesser ranks and their families who may find themselves in the same situation should for once and all call the bluff of the politicians and the REAL exploiters and bullies.

  • Spoed - 2012-01-12 21:13

i do not understand the fuss, these people will make use of a childs body to make a IED, behead people on live television and now a few drops of pee has the whole world up in arms -- get real!!

  • Cracker - 2012-01-12 21:17

Those soldiers were not created. They were MANUFACTURED by the establishment who will now turn against them and all the other members of the USA armed forces. The two-facedness and shifting the blame!

  • Cracker - 2012-01-12 21:27

Hillary Clinton is a two-face. While she fights USA wars in comfort the ordinary soldier has to contend with reality. The sand, sweat, ferocious enemy, mutilations, wounds, etc.

      Stewart - 2012-01-12 22:04

cracker ,are you on crack on just in denial

      Cracker - 2012-01-12 22:23

@ Stewart Definitely denial. I deny that you are intelligent or knowldgeable.

  • Paul - 2012-01-12 21:30

If you can't beat them piss on them. The 'rubber necks' will have their day.

      Cracker - 2012-01-12 22:03

@ Paul You of course do recall how the Russian chapter of the Communist Party - your party according to you little FB profile - tried to occupy Afghanistan. Unsuccessfully of course. You are one of the silly ones around? Do you agree?

      Paul - 2012-01-12 22:17

And Cracker and so did that little island called Great Britain before the Russians and they had their arses whipped.

      Cracker - 2012-01-12 22:36

@ Paul What is your point really? Logic and differentiation of arguments are not your strong points. I'll tell you why. You are invoking a totally different set of suppositions with your silly comment. You should have realised that I was not referring to the failures of attempted seizures of Afghanistan but to the simple fact that your communist pals TRIED it and that it is really no reason to blame the Americans or anybody else for the same immoral activities - immoral now from your and your communist frieds' perspective. We all know what led to the current problems and that it is really desirable for and in the interest of the peoples of the WHOLE world to be salvaged from religion bondages. Unfortunately the USA interverntion in Afghanistan does not seem to help in this regard. Why? One doubts that they really care. Unfortuantely, you dirty little communist, you and the likes of the Hillary Clinton club are equally guilty of hypocrisy and all just to justify and protect your little fiefdoms at the expense of the real sufferers in this world. The people who have no real freedoms to live out their true and genuine human potentials.

  • Graziella - 2012-01-12 21:32

Are the Afghanese supposed to accept their occupation?

      GWS - 2012-01-12 21:57

By the Taliban? I bet the Afghanis miss the days when they were forced to grow beards and all televisions and radios were tossed onto a fire and burned to stop them from having contact with the outside world. Aaaah for the good ol' days.

      Graziella - 2012-01-13 07:11

The Taliban are Afghanese, who defeated another occupying power prior to the NATO terrorist venturing into that country. No one in Afghanistan asked the coalition of the killing for their help. Why is that western powers need to be constantly making war, aren't you people tired of foghting, it's been ten years now and you are already getting worked up for another war with Iran, that you won't be winning but would result in the destruction of an ancient Persian country and billion of dollars to weapons manufacturers.

      GWS - 2012-01-13 09:22

The Taliban are also insurgents from Pakistan. The international shop called 'Spinnys' in Kabul was attacked and blown up by a Pakistani Taliban insurgent around the middle of last year. The Taliban has strong links to Pakistan.

  • Richard - 2012-01-12 21:36

This is war people. Not snakes and ladders. Pissing on them is being gentle as far as I am concerned. They deserve far worse. You cannot call it "barbaric". When you have seen your friends being killed and maimed by these pigs then I'm afraid all feelings go out the window. Maybe people have forgotten what these pigs are capable of and reponsible for??

      Paul - 2012-01-12 21:44

Your security company freinds who rushed over their for a quick buck?

      Stewart - 2012-01-12 21:50

maybe we should piss on the graves of your forefathers as u know what they did to our black people.your forefathers were more than barbaric

      GWS - 2012-01-12 21:54

Stewart and Paul are about to start crying. Here's a tissue doodums.

      Paul - 2012-01-12 22:05

No GWS it is Richard who is crying for the loss of his trashy freinds.

      neil.hamman - 2012-01-13 07:33

haha... hey Pual... wait untill we come home

  • michael.e.bowery - 2012-01-12 21:52

These were the guys who are regularly killing innocents. To the victors the spoils and if that includes the so called barbaric act. Go for it guys. Your entire world at home is soft so stay strong and for a change WIN.

  • Stewart - 2012-01-12 21:58

rwanda is nothing compared to barbaric behaviour of white racist during apartheid rwanda 800000 serbians killing bosnians over 1 million hitler killing jews 6 million south african government from 1948 till 1990 ? us bombing in iraq over 500000.

      Cracker - 2012-01-12 22:07

@ Stewart Luckily the statistics for South Africa for the relevant period is known and undisputed. You lose. As usual.

      Lara - 2012-01-12 22:10

So, what's your point? Genocide is a human thing.

  • louis.langenhoven - 2012-01-12 22:17

someone shoulp p on the head of the p-head taking the p-movie...

  • Stephen - 2012-01-12 22:19

I'll bet that on September 11th, these guys who are getting pissed on were jumping for joy while watching those poor people jumping out of the burning trade centre towers. So I dont really care that they're pissing on them, i would have done the same gladly

  • cliff.slabbert - 2012-01-12 22:29

They could have done worse as far as I am concerned - f&$#* murdering scum!

  • cliff.slabbert - 2012-01-12 22:32

They are put in the front line to take all the heat for freedom and now they are bad boys - bull@*&% these guys have gone through enough and seen enough to be judged by some woosy left wingers.

  • Tshivhombela Fhatuwani - 2012-01-12 22:33

I know that you can't bring roses at war and I strongly condemn the actions of this marines. They went there to fight terrorrism and not to show the barbaric acts typical of the Taliban. If they wanted to fight terror with terror they should have hijacked the planes and hit them against what I don't know because the only towers in Afghanistan are in Tora Borra Towers/Mountains. Two wrongs never make one right.

  • shaun.botsis - 2012-01-12 22:50

nothing wrong with what they are doing. An hour earlier those corpses were alive and probably trying to kill the soldiers. I would probably do the same thing in that situation. Its war. You gotta put it into perspective.

  • Shahied - 2012-01-12 23:13

Damn oppertunists...you can only do that to the death...shame on you COWARDS !!! You will run from Afghanistan as you ran from Iraq ...with your tail between your legs nogal !!!!!Ha...Ha...Ha...

  • Christopher - 2012-01-13 00:47

There are 2 sides to the story. Some would say respect the dead & some would say that they too would urinate on dead taliban fighters who glady post beheadings of Westerners all over the internet. However 1 has to keep in mind that US soldiers are eligible for recruitment @ the age of 17. So what I'm saying is that most of them are kids that have just left high school. If anybodies to be blamed its the older men & the officers in charge for not keeping their troops in check.

  • Stewart - 2012-01-13 06:18

cliff lol .is this s joke ,a white dude calling me a racist?

      Garth - 2012-01-13 07:02

Only black racists believe that blacks cannot be racist. Your comments are puerile and ineffective as arguments, they stray so far off course as you attempt, time after time, to inject your racist hatred into each and every forum wherein you participate. You have no knowledge and no facts and probably live on hand-outs from your poor working mother. Get an education. Get off your ar$e and get a job.
