Men get 5 years for beating gay man

2012-07-14 10:31

Atlanta - Three young men have been sentenced to five years in prison for the videotaped beating of a gay man on an Atlanta street corner that was captured in a widely viewed video.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Dorian Moragne, Dareal Demare Williams and Christopher Cain were also given five years of probation on Friday. Their sentences stems from the February 4 beating of 20-year-old Brandon White.

The fourth suspect, Javaris Bradford, is still at large.

Defence Attorney Jay Abt, who represents Moragne, says probation will include intensive community service and sensitivity education following their prison term.

The video showed men punching and kicking White as he walked out of a grocery store in the city's Pittsburgh neighbourhood, south of downtown. Gay slurs were heard on the video, and one man slammed a tire on him.

Rudzani, why is it that, as a culture, we are more comfortable seeing two men holding guns than holding hands? It always seemed to me a bit pointless to disapprove of homosexuality. It's like disapproving of rain. The bible contains six admonishments to homosexuals and 362 admonishments to heterosexuals. That does not mean that God doesn't love heterosexuals. It's just that they need more supervision - you retard!

The Bible also mentions rape only a few times. Does that mean that we shouldn't take it too seriously? Same with bestiality.

They should have been given a heavier sentence. Gay are also Human Beings, we do know what the Bible states, but they are also God's Children. Judge not.

      Wendy - 2012-07-14 14:43

The idea that we are all are God's children is not a Christian idea. The Bible teaches us that, having being born sinful, we are naturally enemies of God. Those who repent of their sins, and are born from above as a result of the death and resurrection of Christ for our sins, are ADOPTED sons and daughters of God.

if everyone could come out with the sins one has committed , one may find out that the most gruesome and horrible sins were committed by people who are not gay, so let's not judge other people, let's rather focus on working on our own weaknesses to become better people for a better world.

      Wendy - 2012-07-14 14:59

Yes, sins of all types are committed by everyone. ALL sins are to be repented of, sexual sins (including, but not limited to, homosexuality), theft, murder, lying, idolatry, etc. Christians are commanded to judge righteously, ie to recognise right from wrong, not to judge by appearances, etc, as opposed to the usual "judge not" passage invariably quoted out of context referring to hypocritical judgement where the Pharisees set different standards for themselves than what they set for everyone else. God, in His mercy, offers salvation to all, but it is conditional upon repentance.

Sin is a man-made concept and does not exist.

They were fighting for what they believe in.

      rozy.gay - 2012-07-14 11:53

Crap they where just being homophobic bullies!!!!!!

      Cassandra Eileen Olivier - 2012-07-14 12:33

They sick bastards! Fighting for what you believe in and beating up someone for no reason is two different things. I have a friend who is lesbian and she been married to her wife for almost three years and I am very happy for them.

Some are born blind, others homosexual. It didn't worry Jesus. And as for the Old Testament, remember masturbation and homosexuality were seen as threats to the breeding of sons, the survival of the tribe. We have moved on.

      Wendy - 2012-07-14 13:35

Actually, it did worry Jesus. He referred several times to the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah for homosexuality. He also re-iterated that the woman was created for the man, and for them to become one for life. Homosexuality is a sin (one of many) which is to be repented of. Jesus came to offer us salvation from sin, not to leave us in it, or bless it.

      phoenix.px.5 - 2012-07-14 15:43

Who cares??? What does this have to do with religion anway??? People who beat up a man because he is gay went to prison. They deserve it. Fantastic.

      Wendy - 2012-07-14 17:14

Phoenixx - I brought up the religious issue in response to a comment about Jesus. And no, they shouldn't have beat up the guy concerned. They should have prayed for him. God, in His mercy and love, saves all who come to Him in repentance, including homosexuals.

Its sad that we cant accept each other for who we are

      Wendy - 2012-07-14 15:15

Some are liars, murderers, rapists, corrupt politicians, etc. Do you accept them for who they are.

      phoenix.px.5 - 2012-07-14 16:48

For Wendy: to illustrate the ridiculousness of your statement, try this slight modification on yours: "Some are liars, murderers, rapists, corrupt politicians, have red hair etc. Do you accept them for who they are. "

      Wendy - 2012-07-14 17:10

Phoenixx - Red hair is not a behaviour or a moral issue.

      phoenix.px.5 - 2012-07-14 21:33

Exactly. You are born that way.
