Milan-bound train ends up in Zurich
Madrid – A passenger train travelling from the Spanish city of Barcelona to Milan, in Italy, ended up in Switzerland because of a carriage switch mistake, Spanish daily El Pais reported on Wednesday.
The night train left Barcelona on Sunday and comprised some carriages headed for the Swiss city of Zurich and others headed for Milan. The train travelled to Lyon in France, where the carriages were split up.
However, train controllers confounded the carriages, sending the Swiss part to Italy and vice versa.
The engine driver heading for Zurich noticed the mistake and ended up arriving in Switzerland three hours late.
But the 130 passengers going to Milan had the worst ride, waking up in Zurich, more than 200km away from their final destination. A bus then took them to Milan.
