Muslims: Dutch MP a danger

2010-10-18 15:20

The Hague - Muslims told judges trying anti-Islam MP Geert Wilders for hate speech on Monday that he was dangerous, dividing a multicultural society that used to co-habit peacefully.

"Mr Wilders is a dangerous ideologist who has divided Dutch society," Naoual Abaida, a trainee lawyer with a native Dutch mother and Moroccan father, told the court.

"I am asking you to protect me as a Muslim and a Moroccan against Mr Wilders," she said, referring to his "Islam-bashing" and "insulting, polarising language".

Wilders, 47, went on trial on October 4 for inciting hatred by calling Islam "fascist" and likening the Qur'an to Hitler's Mein Kampf.

The prosecution service asked the court for his acquittal last Friday, saying his criticism, though hurtful, was not criminal.

On Monday, lawyers for Wilders' accusers - a group of individuals from around the country - asked for a guilty verdict and a symbolic damages award of €1.

'Sowing hatred'

"We are the daily target of xenophobic statements," Mohamed Rabbae, politician and activist, told the judges as Wilders looked on, occasionally lifting his eyebrows or making faces.

"Our children have become unsure about their future (...) in this climate of discrimination, hate and enmity as propagated by Mr Wilders."

This in turn caused "anger, bitterness and a deepening of the divide between Muslims and native Dutch", said Rabbae.

In June 2008, the prosecution service dismissed dozens of complaints against the politician, citing his right to freedom of speech.

But appeals judges ordered in January 2009 that he stand trial as his utterances amounted to "sowing hatred" - compelling the prosecution to mount a case against him.

Wilders, who will give parliamentary support to a new, rightist coalition government inaugurated last Thursday, risks up to a year in prison or a €7 600 fine for comments made during his campaign to "stop the Islamisation of the Netherlands".

Wilders' defence lawyer will make his case on Tuesday and Friday.

Judgment is expected on November 5.

Yet another anti-muslim european fascist, supported by the rightwing Israeli government, who wish to demonise muslims so they can continue their slaughter and ethnic cleansing of palestinians.

  • This is interesting - 2010-10-18 16:33

So why is only anti-muslim now seen as dividing a multi-cultural society. So how about a president ignoring Christians, like Mr Obama. I do not condone hate speech but find it extremely funny that the shoe only fits one side, especially a community that is filled with extremist. So I do not see any other religion in Europe blowing up subways because of the Satan of the West. What happened to freedom of speech International Media or is it again only what suit you

  • DrP - 2010-10-18 16:34

I haven't heard a single falsehood coming out of his mouth, harsh words, yes, but no falsehoods.

  • Jones - 2010-10-18 16:39

Isaa, your an idiot. The article has absolutely nothing to do with Israel, go spread your prpoganda somewhere else

  • Ian - 2010-10-18 16:59

Yes, Geert wilders statements may have been hurtful to the millions of true Islamic people the world wide, but then his statements are a natural reaction to the dangerous Islamic fanatics threatening to destroy anything, including Christianisty, that they stand against. I for one think it is high time that the western and Christian goevernments stand up to the exremist threat, and how we do that while not harming or alienatinf true Islam followers is a thing to be explored and resolved. The world is a multi-cultural, muti-religious community after all .... so why do we not all stand against all threats together?

  • Sipho - 2010-10-18 17:11

What a surprise. Racsist, white, South Africans who supported apartheid now support Islamophobia? Why cant we criticise the Jewish community???

  • Dion - 2010-10-18 17:12

If this unbridled occupation of peaceful cpountries and the resultant militarism and eventual sharia law, is left to grow, Christians and other non-muslims will be destroyed.

  • James - 2010-10-18 17:14

Why is Islam-bashing ok for whites, but anti-semitism and rascism against blacks wrong??
I recall the Apartheid government and politicians like Margaret Thatcher and Dick Cheney also called the ANC terrorists!!!

  • Anti-Dutch - 2010-10-18 17:19

First the Dutch invited all the muslim immigrants to their country and now they want to change them and get rid of them. This is a case for the CAH.(Cruelty against Humans!)They are like getting a pet and when he does not want to behave or be like me we throw him out.

  • Kaaskopkenner - 2010-10-18 17:21

I lived in Holland for almost 5 years, if anyone is a fascist it is old Geert himself.

Lets not forget these people were essentially invited to the country when the economy boomed from the discovery of gas in the north sea.

Mistakes have and are being made by both sides and as with any such racial issue it is a complex one. Extremism is, however, not the answer. The Morroccans are part of that country and as much as Geert wants them gone (reminds me of a certain austrian) all that would happen if they left is they would be replaced by other imported labour, probably eastern european.

He is like Julius Malema, except i dislike Geert more than Julius.

  • Doffie - 2010-10-18 17:26

have you ever tried living in a Muslim coutry like I am, in the U.A.E., where multiculturalism is the norm and societies, Muslims and Christians alike, live in total peace. This from a nation perceived as extremists and terrorists by the West. Funny that peoples can live side by side in this country. Who needs anyone hell bent on dividing peoples, like this idiot? He obviously has no idea what he is doing. Maybe, banish him to spend 6 months in an Islamic country as a form of punishment for his ignorance.

  • Toothfairy - 2010-10-18 17:54

In this day and age of nauseating Political Correctness, it is inevitable that there would be "outrage" from a small minority at Geert Wilders. Funny how his party is growing hand over fist as people grow sick and tired of their governments allowing their countries to be taken over by foreigners who insist on forcing their (extremist?) will upon their new adoptive countries. I listened to Wilders speak expecting a fiery lunatic from what I had heard about him. Instead I heard a highly intelligent well spoken person who believed in what he was saying and was able to explain his point in a very believable way. There is not one Islamic country I know of on the face of this planet that would allow people of other religions to set up shop in their countries and start demanding rights. Thank God there are still leaders around with a bit of backbone. If you don't like Geert Wilders, simple, do not vote for him. Thats democracy, something that is unheard of in Islamic countries.

  • Check for yourself - 2010-10-18 17:56

Google Nonie Darwish. She is a converted muslim. She will tell you the truth.
Also Google Walid Shoebat, another converted muslim. They will give you the bare facts about muslims, SCARY!

  • Idomeneo - 2010-10-18 18:09

Muslims go to live in European countries and expect those countries to adapt to them. They make no effort to adapt to the European lifestyle or to integrate. Naturally, this breeds resentment. It's especially galling that most of them left their native country because of the lack of freedom. Now they want to deny that freedom to the rightful inhabitants of their adopted country.

  • Ben - 2010-10-18 18:14

Europe will eventually succumb to external influences such as Islam. The world's impoverished streamed into Europe and have now emerged as a dominant force. The same goes for the USA. The whites there will only see this in the next 15 years when they become a minority in their country of birth. Welcome to the world of multi-ethnicity. Clashes will become more focussed on religious grounds and less along racial divides.

  • ian - 2010-10-18 18:18

Let the islamists go and live in the countries that perpetrate their laws. If they ive in a Christian based country they follow that cultures norms. END OF STORY.
If I go to Saudi or for that matter any other islamist country I am ostracized.
Islam is the worlds new threat AT least until they stand up and condemn the fundmentalists vocally.

  • Freedom - 2010-10-18 18:41

What about when Muslims talk of wiping out Israel. Is this not racist hate speech? What about the fact that Muslim woman have no rights? I don't see Christians blowing up busses in Iran or Egypt. Please, the Muslim world must cry me a river, I have no sympathy.

  • SH - 2010-10-18 19:11

What a bunch of babies! Since when is hurting someone's feelings a crime? If Muslims can't take insult, perhaps they are not fit to live in a democratic society and they should leave. As we say in America, if you dish it out (which Muslims do in spades to other groups), you should be able to take it.

  • GT - 2010-10-18 19:27

to isaac. what does israel have to do with him? you and your ilk using your anti-israel propaganda at every opportunity

  • peter - 2010-10-18 20:26

apparently 17 people all get time to whine about Wilders in court, one of them even for 45 minutes, yet, Wilders was not even allowed to call more than 2-3 witnesses.

    Wilders is correct!
One of the lawyers of the 'victims' is a fundamentalist muslim who refuses to shake hands with women, refuses to rise in court coz he does not recognize the authority of judges over Allah.

It is a political trial and if Wilders would not have been so victorious in the elections, he would certainly have been convicted. Now perhaps the biased judges don't dare

  • Jam - 2010-10-18 22:05

All this happend since 911 even though most of the world believes it the US themselves.
Regarding Islam quote one verse that is inhuman & how can you judge a world faith on what a few people do....

  • Michael - 2010-10-19 07:15

Just what do these folks have against the idea of someone speaking their mind?

  • @DrP - 2010-10-19 08:46

You just another bigot like this dude with the white hair. Show me one verson from the Quran in context, before and after paragraphs where it allows killing of innocent ppl and I will give you 1000 rands. Open the book dumb asses. You bigots want to incite a have no moral high ground to stand on with all the lies that comes out. You comment on a book you have not opened. • @ @DrP - 2010-10-19 10:41

All religion should be seen as childish fairy-tales and handles with contempt. So it is not just you with your Quran or the Pope with his Bible... it is all of you. The world will be a better place without religion.

  • Zahir - 2010-10-19 11:39

    @Freedom, SH, and Ian.
Please feel free to put your real name and addresses for us all to see so that we can come and visit you and explain what Islam means, you ignorant a$$es! Why not do yourselves a favour and actually find the time and educate yourselves in more than just porn and fuelling division amongst people. It's disgusting that people like you are actually allowed to contribute that rubbish you have upstairs to forums like this. BTW have anyone of you retards ever heard of any Muslim ever criticized a Christian or Jew's beliefs or evn the Torah or Bible? we don't cos most of us have higher moral values. The extremists are people like you...the one's whio cannot think for themselves and who have no respect for life.

  • Qwan - 2010-10-19 14:29

"Just what do these folks have against the idea of someone speaking their mind? "

Because of his agitation, Muslims are opressed daily in the Netherlands. Mosques are being burned down, people are attacked on the streets. It all began well before 9/11. The first step was when the Dutch military helped Serbs in the Srebrenica genocide.

  • Daemon@Zahir - 2010-10-19 14:39

"BTW have anyone of you retards ever heard of any Muslim ever criticized a Christian or Jew's beliefs or evn the Torah or Bible?"

Ummm yeah?! I have heard lots of criticism from muslims about other religions!

Sorry to dissapoint your Zahir but you get bad apples in every religion.

In fact, religion itself is the baddest apple and should be abolished

  • Daemon - 2010-10-19 14:40

I totally understand that most muslims are peace loving - but why don't you bunch SPEAK UP against your own who are extremists then?

  • Nabila - 2010-10-19 14:47

I would have to agree with Zahir on this

  • Mike the aetheist - 2010-10-19 14:54

@Zahir, I do not hear many of the Islamic leaders of this world strongly denouncing terrorism, the stoning of Islamic women, the killing of Christians and Jews, empathy for other religions. The Burka is not in Koran and was latter addition to ensure that your women are kept under the control of the male dominated hierarchy. Perhaps you should learn about your religion and then recognise that believing in superstitions from the bronze age is for kids and people who are not that bright.

You have to admit that many Muslims are violent backward people and the good Muslims appear to do nothing to stop it. If you are not part of the solution to the extremism in your own religion you are part of the problem.

  • Freddy - 2010-10-19 14:57

Fellow readers, this story is not about South Africa, or South Africans. this story is also not about blacks, whites or race. This story is about 1 Europeans view point. Why hurting our own follw countrymen and women?
Please try to keep it real.

  • @Sipho - 2010-10-19 15:01

    Learn to spell dude!

  • @Nabila - 2010-10-19 15:12

Are you perhaps also known as Zahir?

  • DrP @ Zahir - 2010-10-20 09:12

What does the Quran advocate as the punishment for apostates. Death... Religion of peace? Infidels? Death... Religion of peace? Does Islam command it's followers to stone women to death for adultery? Does Islam propogate female genital mutilation?
    Allah Akbar? I think not...
