Mutilated bodies dumped on Mexico highway

2012-05-13 19:50

Monterrey - At least 37 mutilated bodies were found dumped in black plastic bags near the northern Mexico city of Monterrey, law enforcement officials said on Sunday, in an apparent flare up of brutal drug violence.

"We are still in the process of counting the bodies, but there are at least 37 that we have tallied so far," a spokesperson for the state of Nuevo Leon told AFP.

The bodies were found on an isolated stretch of the highway 180km from the US border.

The grim discovery comes just days after police found the dismembered, decapitated bodies of 18 people in two abandoned vehicles in western Mexico, in what appeared to be a revenge killing involving powerful drug gangs.

Just a few days earlier, there were 23 killings in the city of Nuevo Laredo, in Tamaulipas state which borders the United States, comprising nine people found hanging from a bridge and 14 others that had been decapitated.

Suspected drug gang violence has flared up across the country this month, with scores of deaths attributed to massacres and clashes with security forces.

Authorities have blamed much of the deadly violence on battles between the Zetas - a gang set up by ex-commandos that deserted in the 1990s - and groups allied to the Sinaloa Federation of Mexico's most wanted drug lord, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman.

Make sure you pay your drug debt in Mexico or just stick to tequila.

Absolutely right Lynda in past 4yrs 35,000 Mexicans murdered. They are unable to make a good life in Mexico then they try and do so in the US. Too many 3rd world people will turn US into a 3rd world country.

Mexico is the gateway for South American drugs, not only to America, but also to the rest of the world. Wherever you are in the world, if you use cocaine there is a good chance it has moved through Mexico. If you buy cocaine you are funding and supporting these atrocities, you might as well go to Mexico and cut off someone's head yourself. People that think it's okay to use drugs because it only affects themselves and nobody else are not considering the amount of murder and suffering that form part of the supply chain in getting those drugs from the source to the user. Cocaine and most other drugs are tainted with the blood of both innocent people and gangsters. Help put an end to this by never using drugs.
