Naked marchers against Chavez

Caracas - About 50 opposition activists in the Venezuelan city of Maracay marched naked and half-naked on Thursday to protest what they claim are human rights violations by the government of populist President Hugo Chavez.

Radio reports said nude activists, some with their bodies painted with anti-Chavez slogans, gathered outside the Aragua state prosecutor's office and the Human Rights Ombudsman's building in Maracay.

They protested against the failure of those agencies to take action regarding the violence last week in Venezuela.

The opposition claims excessive force was used by security forces to control protest demonstrations across Venezuela set off by an electoral ruling that stymied efforts to organize a recall vote on Chavez.

Officials said nine people were killed in the unrest, but the opposition claims 13 people died, 1 720 suffered injuries, 410 were arrested, seven people were tortured in prison and seven people are still missing.

"People marched naked because that is how they feel; naked and defenceless in the face of agencies who are under the control of the government and do not act when faced by violations to human rights," said First Justice youth party leader Elmer Alvarez. - dpa

Patrick says... Jaba.. OK. You want to go off the subject of this article a little. First you must not I am not anti the Israeli people in away way. Israel was created by the UN with no little or no consultation with any Arab states at the time. Lets us say then as now, those Arab states don't want Israel there. How can you blame them for not wanting it there ? If you were them would you accept Israel is a sovereign state ? Israel is most definitely an apartheid state. I have been there and seen it with my own eyes. Where do the Palestinians get the funding to run their "country". Israel correct ? Why ? So it part of Israel correct ? I also know many Israelis don't agree with their own government's stance on Palestine but have keep quite about it. So much for Israeli democracy. Iran has never acted in an aggressive manner with any country other than Iraq. Israel on the other hand is the most aggressive militarily in the middle east. Most recently their posturing just shows their leader's arrogance. There is no proof Iran has a nuclear weapons program In my opinion Israel will not continue to exist as it is if they continue to harass the region. There will come a time when change will happen in Israel. It is my fear that the people of Israel will suffer if and when those changes happen and they are not negotiated changes. So it needs someone in Israel will balls, like Mr F.W de Klerk, to change Israel's need for militancy and promoting dialogue. Read the article...
