No intermarriage, warn Rabbi wives

2010-12-29 12:36

Jerusalem - At least 27 Israeli rabbis' wives have signed a letter calling on Jewish women to avoid intermarriage with Arabs and even avoid working alongside Arab men, Israeli media reported on Wednesday.

The letter also warns Jewish women they risk falling under the sway of Arab men if they serve alongside them in Israel's national service.

"For your sake, for the sake of future generations, and so you don't undergo horrible suffering, we turn to you with a request, a plea, a prayer," said the text of the letter as quoted in media reports.

"Don't date non-Jews, don't work at places that non-Jews frequent, and don't do national service with non-Jews."

The letter accuses Arab men of using Jewish names to deceive unsuspecting women, and warns a life of "curses, beatings and humiliations" awaits them if they date or marry an Arab.

'Curses, beatings'

"There are quite a few Arab workers who use Hebrew names. Yusuf becomes Yossi, Samir becomes Sami and Abed becomes Ami," the letter was quoted as saying.

"They ask to be close to you, try to find favour with you, and give you all the attention in the world... but their behaviour is only temporary. The moment you are in their hands, in their village, under their control, everything changes.

"Your life will never go back to the way it was, and the attention you so desired will turn into curses, beatings, and humiliations," the letter warns.

Among the signatories to the letter are the wives and daughters of senior rabbis, including the daughter of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, the spiritual head of the ultra-Orthodox party Shas, which is part of Israel's coalition government.

The letter is reportedly being distributed by a group called Lehava (Flames), an organisation that seeks to prevent Jewish assimilation and says it draws inspiration from the legacy of anti-Arab rabbi Meir Kahana.

Kahana, who was assassinated in New York in 1990, led the Kach movement, which promoted an extreme right-wing racism against Arabs that led to it being banned in Israel in 1994.

The letter comes as rights groups warn of a rising tide of anti-Arab sentiment in Israeli society.

In recent weeks, about 300 rabbis have signed a letter calling on Jews to avoid renting or selling property to non-Jews, and right-wing groups have staged demonstrations warning Jews against fraternising with Arabs.

The rabbis' letter drew widespread condemnation, including from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but a poll published on Tuesday showed Israelis are evenly divided on the issue.

The survey, which had a margin of error of 4.5%, found 44% of Israeli Jews supported the rabbis' calls, while 48% were opposed.

And they say Apartheid was/is a South African phenomenon! If this isn't arrant racism, I don't know what is.

Have to agree with you, what the Jews are doing today just isnt right. But you will never see the world up in arms to sanction Israel

      Adam Marcus - 2010-12-29 13:03

Racism Shmacism... Everything's racism these days. If i brush my teeth with the wrong coloured toothpaste its racism... if my dog barks at a red car and not a blue car it's racist. Why can't you people leave other people with different cultures be without judging from your glass houses.

      daaivark - 2010-12-29 13:28

Ja, by banning any form of interaction. Really mature that.

If the Jews don't do something about the flood of Arabs into Israel they will soon no longer have Israel! Good on them! The Arab states criticise Israel but many Arabs want to live and work in Israel because their own countries are pathetic.

      KingKong - 2010-12-29 13:42

They only pathetic because of what the jew has done to them

      daaivark - 2010-12-29 13:46

You know because you've spent time there?

      KingKong - 2010-12-29 13:57

Well all you have to do is look at what the blockade did to palestine, plus im really sure that any "enemy" of the jew, america will put sanctions against and not trade with.

      Zion - 2010-12-29 14:17

Jack, it would be fruitful and worthwhile reading the history of Israel before and after 1948. Try not to read British, American or Israeli history but something less biased.

      Rajty - 2010-12-29 14:29

And the jews have no financial interests in the middle east hey jack.....?

      Zee - 2010-12-29 14:52

You do know Israel was created by the British on Palestian soil right Jack? Your statement is hypocritical - imagine in 1948 the Palestinians "did something" about the "flood of Jews" from Nazi Germany - would your statement "If the Jews don't do something about the flood of Arabs into Israel they will soon no longer have Israel" still hold true??

      Jack - 2010-12-29 19:18

@Zion, how far back do you want to go? The Arabs want Israel because Israel is a country of massive success and power. It just proves how superior the Jew is. They got the backing of the most powerful country in the world and the Arabs have nothing.

One does not expect this kind of hatred in the name of religion but, hey most wars on earth have been and are still being fought in the name of religion. This kind of intolerance boggles the mind. So-called religious leaders are actually stoking this malaise. What kind of god would tolerate this? Certainly not the one I have come to accept. Mavusane

      Howzitekse - 2010-12-29 14:34

This is not about religion. It is about greed (power), hatred and tribalism.

Bloody agents. Even infiltrated the Jewish faith. Hope the rest of the world understands that there is a difference between a Jew and an Isreali.

      KingKong - 2010-12-29 14:09

      please explain?

      Brenton - 2010-12-29 15:08

True, just like there is a difference between Arabs and Muslims.

      Brenton - 2010-12-29 15:09

@KingKong, not all Israeies are Jewish.

      Brenton - 2010-12-29 15:10

@KingKong, not all Isrealies are Jewish.

      KingKong - 2010-12-29 15:20

@Brenton, is Isreal not a jewish state?

  • Stylin - 2010-12-29 14:05

whilst the jewish men are so busy building walls of seperation, the Arab men are servicing their wives and sisters. Maybe they need to show the Rabbi's wives a bit of fun too (Whips and chains come to mind)... LMAO ...

  • FrankLee - 2010-12-29 14:37

I see all kinds of comments against the call of the Jews to separate themselves from the Arabs. What I don't see are comments against the virtual death sentence for any Arab women that dares to associate with any Israelis. Perhaps that kind of intolerance is OK? As far as the Jews are concerned, they are merely practicing what they should have been preaching long ago: the Torah tells them clearly not to marry those of different faith; those who do not believe in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. If they had listened to those words they might have been far better off today. Mind you that same Torah also speaks against treating the alien like scum and instead commands the Israelite to treat them with respect and dignity because they too were once aliens in a foreign land.

      Stylin - 2010-12-29 14:57

The Arabs and the Jews believe in the same God. Ie the God of Abraham (Ebrahim to the Arabs). I think the jews fear that they will lose everything to the Arabs eventually through whatever process and they are forced to take drastic and desperate action to "save" their exclusive culture. This raises the question: Are jews becoming an endangered species? The Americans surely think so.

      Stylin - 2010-12-29 15:01

On a more serious note: I think this whole issue is about the Rabbis not satisfying their wives. Their wives are jealous [not to mention Horny as hell] because other Jewish women have easier access to the Arab men ad now they want to put a stop to it..."if we can't nobody can"

      KingKong - 2010-12-29 15:12

See this is what im talking about, complete and utter arrogants, bumbo jumbo from a stupid lil book called the torah. Because of this one lil book now they think they better than everyone else and somewhat “special” no wonder NEARLY EVERY nation over the the last 3000 years has persecuted them, maybe if they didn’t walk around thinking they were special and everyone else was scum we wouldn’t be in this situation, Hitler was an under achiever, yes not the most popular idea out there but I think it’s true, he should have removed all peoples who think its beneath them to realize we are all one and we have to work as 1 to forward humanity away from this draconian and dogmatic idea of religion, makes me SICK!

      FrankLee - 2010-12-30 10:26

@Stylin. The Arabs [read Islam] cannot believe in the same God as the one the Jews believe in. Some notable differences: The Jewish God claims to be loving, long-suffering and compassionate, not only tolerating those who does NOT do His will but also making the sun shine on them, i.e. giving good things to them. He advocates mercy, even on one's enemies. Now of course you'll bring up the total extermination of the Canaanites but in that context the Jewish God had given them ample time to repent but they'd reached their limit of tolerance. The person in the Koran does not have any forgiveness or mercy for enemies - at least not as far as I can make out. There just isn't such a meaning in that book. You can correct me if I'm wrong. Furthermore: Islam claims that Abraham was instructed to sacrifice Ishmael, Hagar's son. In contrast the Jewish bible states that it was Isaac that was to be offered up. They cannot both be correct. Hence it could surely not have been the same God who instructed Abraham to sacrifice BOTH his sons, now could it? Especially seeing that Ishmael was nowhere near his father when the instruction for sacrifice came. @KingKong: "he should have removed all peoples who think its beneath them to realize we are all one and we have to work as 1 to forward humanity away from this draconian and dogmatic idea of " Right on - go ahead and kill all those who do not think like you. Serve your own god and your own dogmatic religion of removing the inferior idiots.

If I'm not mistaken, this was the same train of thought that led to the holocaust- do not intermarry, to not socialize, do not work with etc...

      Stylin - 2010-12-29 15:27

Agreed. And just say something like "What holocaust???"

  • Usama - 2010-12-29 15:21

The main reason why jewish women go after arab men is because they arent many straight jewish males left. Most of them are either gay or taken.

I live in Israel, and I can tell you that this disgusting racist letter that was fist signed by 50 State paid Rabbi's was so condemned, there was a huge outcry for these Rabbi's to be fired..Even other Rabbi's came out condemning this racist letter. Majority of Israeli's do not hold this far-right religious fanatical views. Majority of towns in Israel co-exist together without any conflict. This current Right wing government did not win the last elections.Netanyahu was only able to form his disgusting government by forming a coalition with far right wing parties(Shas, and Israel Beiteinu. These 2 parties are pure evil) Since this Right Wing government has been in power there have been more racist bills being brought before Knesset(parliament) than ever before.21 bills to be exact. Netanyahu did not win the elections.Tzipi Livni did. There were huge protests against this so called Rabbi's Letter...and more disgust at this Letter from the Rabbi's wives. This right wing government and the religious fanatics are the problem. They all need to take a chill pill calm the hell down, and realize their actions are no different to what happened to the Jews during the Holocaust...WAKE UP.....and Down with This right wing government, you, the settlers and the religious fanatics are the problem in this region!!NOT ARABS,NOT NON JEWS,AND NOT THE SECULAR JEWS WHO HAVE NO PROBLEM LIVING SIDE BY SIDE WITH ARABS!! We can is proven in many towns throughout Israel...PEACE NOW!!!

      TruthSeeka - 2010-12-30 08:54

Unfortunately any Jew that opposes the new state of Israel will be branded a Refusnik and will face the same oppression as the Christian and Muslim Palestinians. Israel makes apartheid look like a walk in the park.

      FrankLee - 2010-12-30 10:35

I am not defending the rabbi's and their letters so all my remarks should be weighed in that light. It's all good and well saying there's side by side living with the Arabs in Israel. However, there's one major issue at stake here and that is that the Palestinian population growth far outstrips that of the Jews. This means that if tolerant and peaceful democratic processes are followed, there will soon be a majority vote for some Palestinian government in Israel. This will basically mean the end of the Israeli nation as we know it. This is what's at stake for the Jews. What they'll do to prevent that and how it will pan out is anybodies guess. I'll watch with great interest to see.
