Norway family wins lottery three times

2012-09-25 22:45

Oslo - Good fortune and having children just seem to go together for Norwegian mother Hege Jeanette Oksnes.

Each time the 29-year old petrol station attendant from tiny Austevoll island off Norway's west coast gives birth, someone in her family wins the national lottery.

"This is completely insane... we don't even play the lottery that often," Oksnes said only days after the family collected $2.12m with their third lottery win in six years.

Oksnes, who serves hot dogs at a petrol station, gave birth to her first child in 2006 just one day after her father Leif won $730 000 crowns on the national lottery.

Three years later, Oksnes herself won, claiming $1.42m crowns one day before giving birth to her second child.

To complete the hat-trick, Oksnes' 18-year-old brother Tord won the very same lottery this weekend, just months after she gave birth to her third child.

After three children though, it may be time to call it quits.

"My husband thinks we have enough money now," she said.

Oksnes bought new cars with her winnings and did a bit of travelling, but has put most of the money in the bank, hoping to find a dream property to build a new house.

      mrsku11 - 2012-09-25 23:16

      uhhhh, to win again maybe?

      terry.burne - 2012-09-26 05:52

Mrsku11 - statistics knows no history! The chances of you winning the lottery are about 1 in 14million (in this country anyway). Your chances of getting the 6 numbers right are still 1 in 14million regardless if you won the lotto last week and the week before - no matter what has happened in the past, it doesn't change that probability.

"why the hell would you play the lotto after you win it?" Because the first time it was $730 000 only?

After two winnings why is she still serving hotdogs !? Starting to think the lotto was the only way she was gonna make it.

Because she knows there is a tomorrow and is not wasting all the money.

  • ettienne.pel - 2012-09-26 07:33

Well if we read it properly, it is not her winning every time, but someone in her family. SO, she has only won it ONE time. And even if she wins it again, it is her luck. Why do we need to be so jealous of others? Is it because we don't like others having more luck than us? Enjoy the winnings and as long as you spend it wisely as we read, keeping in mind that your children come first, have fun.

      Thanks Cpt. Obvious.

And anyway, what exactly is $730 000 'crowns'? Dollars (U.S.)or 'crowns'? Like all else, standards in 'journalism school' seem to have taken a dive too.

      david.coetzee.77 - 2012-09-26 08:51

I can believe this happening in Norway I can also believe this happening in South Africa but for completely different reasons. Sorry folks I am to cynical to believe that we can have multiple winners time after time here in SA, so the result is I will never play SA Lotto again. I can remember when SABC handed over to E the jackpot was R30 mill, can still remember the winning numbers: 21-23-25-27-29-31 bonus ball 6 AND THERE WERE 33 winners

Well someone up there likes this family LOL... Good for her and her family... At least she seems to be sensible about spending her winnings..
