Dar es Salaam - Democratic President Barack Obama and Republican predecessor President George W Bush are proving it's a small world after all, with a chance encounter a long way from home.

The two men plan to appear together briefly on Tuesday, when they both will be in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Obama is on the final day of a weeklong tour of the continent, while the George W Bush Institute is hosting a two-day summit on African women.

Michelle Obama and Laura Bush plan to appear together on a panel at the summit, while the two presidents lay a wreath at the memorial for 11 Americans killed in the US Embassy bombing nearly 15 years ago.
