Pakistani police arrest imam

2012-09-02 09:14

Islamabad - Pakistani police say authorities have arrested an imam who had accused a Christian girl of blasphemy.

Munir Jaffery, an investigating officer in the case, said on Sunday that Khalid Chishti was arrested late on Saturday for allegedly planting pages of a Qur'an in a shopping bag containing burned papers and ash that had been carried by the Christian girl.

The 14-year-old girl was later accused of burning pages of the Qur'an, a serious offence in Pakistan that can result in life in prison.

The about-face could lead to the girl being released from prison and defuse what has been a religiously charged case in Pakistan.

The case has been especially sensitive because of the girl's young age and questions about her mental capacity.

Seriously!?!? WTF is wrong with this dude. Ashamed to be muslim right now... I hope and pray that you are locked away for a very long time as you are the reason people have a negative view of muslims!

      ebrahim.tar.7 - 2012-09-02 09:49

one can never be ashamed to be a muslim, He "allegedely" no proof as yet let the courts decide, no person or thing can ever make you ashamed to be a Muslim, Your faith and Imaan should come within.

      mike.bevis.7 - 2012-09-02 10:03

If you're so ashamed of being a muslim why aren't you protesting against the slaughter of inocent ppl by islamic nut jobs in Africa or demanding that islam stop forcing their religion on school children in europe. Just asking.

      appealtoreason.rationalmind - 2012-09-02 10:35

@mike.bevis And you know this how?

      tabib.asnan.3 - 2012-09-02 12:34

When it comes to muslims, its guilty until proven innocent. When proven innocent, it wont make headlines. Watch 'confronting the evidence' on youtube. Please dont be quick to hate. Peace be on you.

      dan.cooper.9634 - 2012-09-02 13:57

@ ebrahim.tar.7 not ashamed !!! just show what you are made off . Any group - religion, race, country, person , organisation that is responsible for 911 , agganistan , countless suicide murders of innocent people should defenitely be ashamed of themselfs . and believe me the other major religions track record isnt any better

      zaatheist - 2012-09-02 14:13

Note the Muslims did no condemn the decision to charge the girl with blasphemy in the first place. Blasphemy is a victimless crime and Muslims should be ashamed that people are charged in Islamic countries as being criminals for voicing any scepticism of religious belief in the 21st century. Muslims are quite happy to see this girl jailed for blasphemy just as they have been quite happy to see a young Indonesian man recently jailed for the same offence. Not a peep of protest. The hypocrisy is evident as they parade up and down about Blair or Israel.

      passop.virmyma - 2012-09-02 23:06

@Mike Bevis. Really? Is that your retort? Farmers and innocent people are killed EVERY single day in South Africa. When was the last time you protested against this? Practice what you preach! As for Islam forcing religion on children in Europe... I've just come back from a 7 year stint in the UK. Get the facts before making unfounded statements...

This petition is on Avaaz worldwide, it is okay for these so called muslims to tell me to take off my cross on my chain and to pout the Holy Bible in the bin, it is okay for muslims to use and abuse our women and children, marry them, and throw them out when they are done, it is okay for them to tell us where to pray and how to pray and change our names and kill animals for sacrifice, but, it is not okay if anyone says anything about them and their self made laws. No human being has power and authority over God and God's Books. It is not for us to kill humans because some destroy the Book Of God. They say they Muslims, meaning believers, but many are liars and mislead believers from the path of God. God alone is Judge and owner of His Scriptures. Hope this so called Iman goes to prison for life.

      gerhard.kress.3 - 2012-09-02 13:51

Every year in Mecca hundreds of thousands of animals are sacrificed to Allah the arabian moongod. Just killed and burnt to cinders. What a turn on. Barbarians the lot.

      tabib.asnan.3 - 2012-09-02 18:29

In islam, it is a tremendous sin to disrespect the bible, hurt an innocent person or kill an animal except to eat from it without waste(unless there is an exceptional circumstance such as the fear of spread of disease, etc). We cannot force religion on another, as is said explicitly in the Quran. Charmaine, please learn about Islam from a muslim. Peace

He'll get a slap on the wrist at most, nothing more. She could have faced life in prison or even death, to say nothing of what could have happened to her family and other Christians in the area. This sort of stone age lunacy makes me really glad that my atheist mind is free from religious baggage.

So much of hatred, so much of ignorance in the comments. Watch the 'divine book' if you have any sincerity. If not, simmer in your desperate hatred of islam.

      gerhard.kress.3 - 2012-09-02 13:18

I understand the koran fell from heaven. Mohammed ascended on a horse to heaven on his death. You don't ask me to believe that nonsense?

      dan.cooper.9634 - 2012-09-02 14:05

@tabib .watch the divine book ??? No we watch your behaviour and we judge you accordingly -- hence all the hate and its not so much hate , but disgust for your actions . All i see from Islam is hatred

      zaatheist - 2012-09-02 14:16

What ignorance? Please explain. Your problem is that we can read and we do have freedom of speech in South Africa - unlike many Islamic countries.

      imtiaz.osman.5 - 2012-09-02 17:24

Muhammed (pbuh) was the greatest man on earth you guys comment on tabibs comment is uncalled for. U guys attitude stinks.

      gerhard.kress.3 - 2012-09-02 17:59

Imtiaz why don't you google Mohammed's Wives? Read and educate yourself about what this man was all about.

      tabib.asnan.3 - 2012-09-02 18:04

Shame. Poor angry people. You cannot speak to one intoxicated by anger.

      tabib.asnan.3 - 2012-09-02 18:06

P.S Gerhard, it wasn't a horse. It wasn't near his death. Child marriages are common in India and rape is a punishable crime in Islam.

      gerhard.kress.3 - 2012-09-02 18:15

Provided there are 4 male witnesses. LOL!

      mike.bevis.7 - 2012-09-02 19:44

@tabib rape a punishable crime in islam ha ha. The woman must have 4 male witnesses on her side that saw the rape, like a muslim is going to call 4 men to watch him rape someone!!! Besides mohamad was a pedeophile, aisha his young wife was raped by him at the tender age of 9. Oh and don't forget muslims can now have sex with his dead wife within 6hrs after she's gone.

      imtiaz.osman.5 - 2012-09-02 20:33

prophet muhammed (pbuh) had many wives for a other reasons and not for sex. If u read about the wives of prophet muhammad (pbuh) u will know that. The only time he remarried was after the passing away of his first wife.

      imtiaz.osman.5 - 2012-09-02 20:41

You guys always pick at muslims having multiple wives. If u take the census of the world they say there is more women than men in the world and some men are gay so it increases the ration between women and men. With you prefer your sister or daughter to be married to a man as his 2nd 3rd or 4th wife and been taken cared for and respected or being a one night stand for many men.

  • willem.dehaan.94 - 2012-09-02 17:58

Does the Koran not say that a false accuser is to suffer the punishment for the crime of which he falsely accused? That would be fair, not so?

      tabib.asnan.3 - 2012-09-02 18:32

Absolutely. That is the law of islam according to Quran and Hadith. I doubt Pakistan uses Islamic law though. I appologise if I am incorrect.

  • michael.a.devilliers - 2012-09-02 21:39

Anyone else slightly concerned that a country that will execute a young Down's Syndrome girl for "disrespecting" their holy book, or even entertain such charges in their legal system has nuclear weapons?

  • tom.poe.12 - 2012-09-04 11:47

Often islam is judged on the acts of some sicko followers........however perverse they might be, it seems that Islam gets the blame. Can we then condemn Christianity for the acts of the numerous paedophile priests in the same manner? Can we condemn Bhuddism for the acts of renegade monks who slaughter and maim in Burma? Can we also blame Hindusim for the prostitution forced down upon many widows in India? Can we blame Judiasm for the racist policies of Zionists? Can we blame atheism for the many serial killers actint in such a manner due to their belief in no God, so no punishment? As a human race, we have to accept that we all are flawed.....
