Plane lands with blown tire

2010-05-01 21:20
Sofia - Airport officials say a tire caught fire while a plane was landing at Sofia's airport coming from Treviso, Italy. None of the 156 passengers and crew on board the plane was hurt.

Officials say a tire on an Airbus A-320 of budget carrier Wizzair blew and caught fire as the plane touched down on the tarmac on Saturday, officials said.

The fire was extinguished within minutes and all 149 passengers and the seven crew members were evacuated.

The airport remained closed for three hours until emergency units cleaned the brake fluid that had leaked on the tarmac.

A dozen flights to and from Sofia were delayed.
