Pole jailed for killing dog
Warsaw - A 42-year-old Pole was on Tuesday jailed for eight months for torturing and killing his wife's dog, the Polish news agency PAP reported.
"Animal cruelty is still considered in Poland as a lower-level offence. That has to change," Rafal Sadowski, the trial judge in the northern town of Torun, wrote in his ruling, PAP said.
Neighbours had reportedly seen the man inflict regular beatings on his wife's three-year-old mongrel.
Days after having hurled the animal from the second floor of a building, he was spotted drunkenly kicking it and banging it against a wall.
Neighbours later found the dog's body in a waste bin and called police.
