Istanbul - A suspicious powder mailed to five Western consulates in Istanbul last week is not a biological weapons agent, reported the Dogan news agency on Monday, citing Turkish officials who had run tests.

Doctors had kept 25 people under medical supervision after suspicious packages containing yellow powder were delivered to the consulates of Belgium, Canada, France, Germany and the United States.

Initial laboratory tests showed that the powder did not contain anthrax, plaque or similar deadly agents, reported Dogan.

Dogan reported that a similar package arrived at the Hungarian consulate on Monday.

It remained unclear however what the powder was or who sent it. No group has claimed responsibility.
