Pro-Palestinian 'flytilla' will go ahead

2012-04-11 22:41

Paris - French organisers of the "fly-in" of hundreds of pro-Palestinian activists expected in Israel's Ben Gurion airport this weekend said on Wednesday they still plan to travel despite Israeli opposition.

"We are obliged to transit through Tel Aviv [Ben Gurion] to get to the West Bank. This is not a choice," said organiser Olivia Zemor, adding that buses have been reserved to ferry the activists to Bethlehem.

Israeli security forces said on Tuesday they had begun preparations for the "fly-in", and local radio reported that those who arrive are expected to be arrested by police deployed at the airport.

The French foreign ministry has advised the 500 to 600 French nationals believed to be signed up for the "fly-in" not to travel "because of the risks of expulsion or detention".

Zemor condemned the French government's position on the event, which is expected to draw a total of up to 2 000 people, primarily from Western Europe.

The campaign's organisers in the West Bank say they want to publicise Israel's control of movement into and out of the Palestinian territory and to boost solidarity with the Palestinian people.

The so-called "Welcome to Palestine" campaign, which has been dubbed a "flytilla," is taking place for the third year.

In 2010, organisers said around 100 activists were able to arrive without incident and travel to the West Bank, access to which is controlled by Israel.

But last year, Israel worked with airlines to prevent hundreds of activists from boarding planes bound for Ben Gurion, and detained and later deported others who managed to arrive.

Israel has reportedly already contacted various airlines to request that they block activists from boarding flights.

Good for Israel! These ill-informed morons should be deported and banned from entering Israel or board any EL-AL flight ever again! Idiots deluxe!

Most of these "French" morons are of arab descent. French politics on Israeli soil. Israel must do whatever is necessary to ensure their safety.

Fantastic.. the good people of the world need to put pressure on Israeli leaders to end the Apartheid like treatment on the Palestinians.. They have a right to their own land and freedom just as Israel does. I am sure most Israelis empathize with the Palestinians and are appalled at the behavior of their government, especially considering many in Israel know full well what it is like to be displaced of a homeland and subjugated under a foreign tyrannical rule.

      Fidel - 2012-04-12 00:09

It appears that they have forgotten this subjugation and displacement. A strange mind indeed.

      Fred - 2012-04-12 00:27

Fidel, why do you choose to have more than one alias, and post messages from them at the same time? Manipulative and weak.

      Fred - 2012-04-12 01:12

      Parrotting words again

      Fidel - 2012-04-12 08:14

I see the hypocrites are back. 10000 murdered in Syria. Where is your protest.

      Jaba - 2012-04-12 06:32

Their detestation of Israel (anti-Semitism in a nutshell) far surpasses their brotherly love of their own people.

      boonzaierj - 2012-04-16 16:53

this isn't a topic about Syria is it? Are you not able to keep things in context? Why would we talk about Syria on an article that has nothing to do with it. You are a complete moron. Israelis are showing their true colours and for the record Syrian government is no better or worse that the Israeli govenemnt.

France's population is now 8% Muslim.

      Fidel - 2012-04-12 08:13

And how much percentage of the US or SA or Britain is Juden. What is your point really. Islamophobe?

      Fidel - 2012-04-12 08:57

Quick lesson in rhetoric: It's called "begging the question," a logical fallacy identified by Aristotle in the 4th century BC. Google it.

      Fidel - 2012-04-12 09:01

There are 50 million Muslims in Europe. There are signs that Islam will be victorious in Europe – without swords, without guns, without conquests. The 50 million Muslims of Europe will turn it into a Muslim continent within a few decades. The same will happen in Israel.

      AnthonyfromAfrica - 2012-04-12 11:29

Fidel, It is totally IMPOSSIBLE, you believe all this BS yourself !!

      Fidel - 2012-04-12 11:37

Like every other post here, mine is just an opinion. If I believed my opinion to be an incontestable fact, I would not be posting on this website.

      Fred - 2012-04-13 08:20

Victorious in Europe. What does that even mean.

I say Israel should use the same methods as the Americans & British use for illegal entry and provocateurs.... send them home at their own expense. I applaud the policy to deport these troublemakers. They are only coming to Israel to grab media attention and to enhance their street credibility and kudos back home where they originate from. They know they cannot achieve what they want which is to have the security wall torn down. That might happen in a hundred years from now........ light years or when Palestinian terrorist stop trying to murder Israeli citizens, but my money is on light years. In the mean time, people like these flying peacemakers should see a shrink. If they really want to move any kind of peace process forward they should fly to Tehran and protest outside Ahmedinejad's office and Khamenei's office......... calling upon Iran to cease its terrorism against Israel. Or they could fly to Cairo and take buses to Gaza and protest against Hamas' refusal to recognize Israel's right to exist. Deport them.

      DSBennie - 2012-04-12 09:17

They do and that is the great thing, no airline will take these idiots to Israel because they know that they will have to take them back again at their expense if they are refused entry at the airport, it will cost the airlines millions

      Fred - 2012-04-14 17:37

What if Israel became the 51st US state? So what.

      Larry - 2012-04-14 23:01

Actually, I agree. So what? The facts are that Israel and the US, and all the Westen world are so far advanced and continuing in their advancement, while the Islamic condition is so poor, disfunctional and backward, that all the islamic world can do is follow and stew in their morass of humiliation. Their only way forward for Islam is to break away from their dark ages fundamentalism and the backwardness of their faith, and become normal human beings. This means embracing democratic social order, assimilation into mainstream society, and acceptance and tolerance of others not of their culture and religion. It is islam that must adjust to the modern world, not the other way round.
