Psychiatric ward to be built for Breivik

2012-06-27 21:01

Oslo - Even if found criminally insane, confessed mass killer Anders Behring Breivik is likely to remain inside the walls of the prison where he has been held since his bomb and gun attacks in July.

Norway's Health Directorate on Wednesday approved plans to build a psychiatric ward inside Oslo's Ila Prison, specially designed for the 33-year-old right-wing extremist.

Breivik has been held at the prison since the twin attacks on 22 July: a bombing in downtown Oslo and a shooting massacre at a youth camp outside the capital. The self-styled anti-Muslim militant admitted both attacks, which killed 77 people.

Since his guilt is not in question, Breivik's mental state was the key issue during his trial, which ended last week. The court is set to make a ruling on 24 Augustus.

I dont understand why the governments in 1st world countries go to such extremes to make prisoners safe? And give them everything they need? Why???? I say so what if he is raped and or beaten by other prisoners. Dont treat his wounds!! In fact why not lock the worst of the worst into a prison & leave them to it. Clear bodies once a day. Honestly these people had no qualms about taking multiple lives why should they be cared for? Their victims are dead!! They never had a chance to live!! Why does no-one acknowledge this? And I know there are rules about prisoner being treated humanely.....why??? Their victims werent.
