Putin calls Bush a 'very decent fellow'

2010-12-02 11:32
Washington - Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin called his former counterpart George W Bush "a very decent fellow", and recalled congenial family visits with the Bush family in an interview on Wednesday.

"They were warm relations, good, kind, human relationship. He visited me in my house. I visited him in his house," Putin told CNN interviewer Larry King, speaking through a translator.

"One thing is for sure: George Bush, the junior, is a very decent fellow... And he has a very good family," Putin said, in response to questions raised of their relationship following the recent publication of the former US president's memoirs.

Throughout his presidency, Bush was hounded by constant reminders of his first meeting with Putin in 2001, after which he told reporters he had looked into Putin's "soul" and found a man he could trust.

In his memoirs, however, Bush wrote described Putin as "cocky", "wily" and "cold-blooded".

"I know some of the aspects of this book already. I don't agree fully with what he has written there, of course. But I'm sure he has forgotten a few things," Putin said with a smile.
