Quake hits off New Zealand coast

Wellington - A 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck off the west coast of New Zealand's North Island on Tuesday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The quake was centred 111km south-southwest of the town of New Plymouth in the bay between the country's two main islands at a depth of 237km, USGS said.

A Reuters witness reported feeling the quake in the capital Wellington.
