Kathmandu - Nepalese officials say villagers have recovered the remains of 17 people who went missing after their village was buried by a landslide triggered by the devastating earthquake that hit the country on 25 April.

Government administrator Shiva Ram Gelal said on Wednesday that the villagers in Langtang valley gathered the remains this week and reported it to authorities in Rasuwa district.

However, bad weather is preventing the authorities from flying to the area on a helicopter.

The entire village was buried by the landslide. The village is in the scenic Langtang valley, which is popular with tourists.

The earthquake on 25 April and another one on 12 May killed 8 900 people in Nepal.
