Berlin - The German government has confirmed that two young German girls rescued after being held for a year by kidnappers in Yemen have arrived back home.
The Foreign Office told German news agency DAPD on Wednesday night that 6-year-old Lydia Hentschel and her sister Anna, who is 4, had arrived at Dresden airport. They were healthy and would be reunited with relatives, the Foreign Office said.
The girls were kidnapped a year ago with their parents and brother in the restive northern Yemeni province of Saada. The whereabouts of the parents and brother remain unknown.
Three other people travelling with them have turned up dead.
Saudi forces, working with the Yemeni government, rescued the girls near the border on Monday.
